Light doesn't come from the sun, it comes out of our eyes in rays, that's how we see. This doesn't work at night time due an innate inherited unconscious switch that turns it off so we can't be seen at night from when we lived in jungles and didn't want to get eaten. Scientists used this in the the war for blackouts during the blitz.
