My trackstanding is a bit shit (i've had to swap feet), riding through London is a bit shit (i can't slice up traffik wid ma mad skillz so much) but the fact that nothing hurts means I'll likely stick with it as it should mean same power, less injury risk, slightly more aero, possibly more efficient although I personally have no evidence to support the latter.

The main reason I'm switching is knee pain... I've ordered a set of pedals so i guess we'll see how it goes.

I am about to move from my long used spr-d to something they actually still make shoes for.
Was looking at the Look Keo 2 graphite pedals. Anyone had any experience of these? -

i couldn't get used to SPD-SL and similar offerings from look or whatever, but found the speedplays very easy to use initially and have ridden them ever since.
i had to dial lots of the float out of them though, and yeah use cleat covers.

I've currently got Keo classics, would it be worth upgrading to Keo max 2 carbons?

Speedplays actually look quite good. I'm after something to save my knees but the initial investment of them is quite high.

I've got a pair of used (about 200miles or so) speedplays going spare if you're interested, good condition (few scratches on the plate but nothing serious).
They are pink in colour though.

I've just sent you a pm chap. This might finally convert me from SPD to road pedals.

Spenceey. If you're interested I'll trade you my black speedplays for the pink ones.
-
• #262
Really? Black would suit my bike much more tbh!
-
• #263
Can't see why not, I've got a white pair too but they're in need of a service. Depending on the condition of the pink ones I'll offer you one or the other

Great thanks.
Hopefully these will be saving my knees. Since having the bike fit my knees don't hurt as much but I still get niggles.
How would the speedplays be for commuting? I'd have to put my foot down a lot more - stopping at lights and stuff.
This will be my first experience with road pedals so excuse my stupid questions.

I had similar issues with sore knees with numerous clipless pedals. Got speedplay and the problem was solved (for me anyway).
Speedplay is fine for commuting as they operate generally the same way as other systems. The cleats are however big and more difficult to walk around in if thats a consideration. I'm fine with it for my purposes.

Yep I'd imagine they'll be fine for me.
My problem with my knees started from riding 500+ miles on an ill fitting bike during 5 days (geared, mashing hills, panniers). The pain is on the outside of my knee which is know is part of the IT band trouble. I always stretch them and use a roller buy fear as soon as I ride the bike I'm back to step one again.
With any luck speedplays will help me out too.

This Speedplay and mid-foot positioning setup is a revelation to me. I tried SPDs, but never really liked it. I do have big legs and for some reason I have naturally been cycling with my midfoot for years. When I started fixed I was using my straps with a platform pedal, and I guess I just got used to doing it.
Going to have to find out more about it. But this could finally see me going clipless.

Toe overlap is the biggest annoyance for me so far with midfoot. A custom frame would sort that but that's getting into stupid money/committment.

Just got my speedplays. Guess i'll be having a go at setting them up this evening.

@Spencey, Speedplay Zero's are great for the road, but ATACS are preferable for commuting imo. Partly due to the shoes that are compatible with them and partly due to light-wearing Speedplay cleats.

Move the BB back 2/3cm you mean?
Did you compensate by pushing your saddle forward?

Go for the red cleats and get some cleat covers as they wear quickly if you need to walk on gravel or something. -

I have been reading some rather negative reviews about the bearing quality of the Look Keo 2 pedals. Anyone else had problems with them as there are more than one or two poor reviews out there?

Mine are fine, and I'm not exactly kind to them.
Are you sure that is'nt a first batch or something. I seem to remember someone saying the brearings were too tight, such that the pedal did'nt hang, ready to be clicked into. Havent really put enough km's on mine to be sure though.

Have had no issues with my Keo2 but the advice on cleat covers above is good, they will wear out quickly without them. (I first used the red cleats but moved to the grey ones for second. the reds will definitely give you more float but how much you need is personal choice).
Wow. Just read up on midfoot positioning, very interesting. Have you noticed any improvement?
