  • Hi all.

    I will speak shortly

As this "Current Project Forum" requests the topics to be more than just a photo and name of a bike, I will tell a short story about this bike (frame picture no. 1) and it's backdrop, how I got it, what were the first build-ups, the impressions, the specifications etc. etc.
I decided to put my bike here to this gallery, because I don't know how long will I ride it more, and it is also a nice piece for lo-pro fans.

I got this as a frame only (no fork) couple of years ago without knowing anything about lo-pro geometry. so the first (v. 1.0) build-up was with a 1" 700c carbon fork and white wheels with a riser bar (as I couldn't find any photos on the net of how it needed to look like). Needless to say, this could go straight to the "Anti-porn: when things go wrong" thread (sadly, I didn't keep the photo of this monster build). Taste-less and technically wrong (28" forks) build aside, it was the first time when I felt what is a really stiff track frame that I could only hear about before. Still, few weeks after the bike was split in parts.

The same year spring came, and I began searching for the right parts for it. I came across the original 650c fork with the same serial number as the frame (pretty lucky !), bought a tubular 26" front wheel and modern Profile Airwing bullhorns. As I wanted to try the new set-up badly, I builded it fastly with the parts that I had laying around - rear wheels was from my casual fixed ride, the cranks were not pista, and the color scheme was clownish. However, v. 2.0 (second picture) was much more pleasant to ride and I felt the great potential the frame had.

Don't remember why it was disassembled, but probably because of it's unmatching and strafing colorful parts. Still, the next (v. 3.0) build-up in aesthetical sense was too beefy- all-black Mavic Open-Pros clinher rims on gold high-flange hubs, white bartape, seatpost and saddle. And when I tried it on track, I understood that I will go for tubulars whatever it means necessary as clinchers are.. well.. not for this bike if I wanted to ride it properly, feeling all its qualities.

So the painstakingly long setup of the v. 4.0 began. Years later I managed to grab a lightweight front 650c wheel, found nice Ti seatpost and got the rear matching tubular rim. The only problem was to find 24h track hub. Then I ordered low flange Mack track single sided hub, which I waited for 4 months (!...).
Currently this is the setup (last pic.) which is the one I like the most, and it performs the best! :)

    So here are the details:
    Frameset:

    • Pinarello '96 pursuit pista with 650 fork (don't know if this model has a name or something) with Dura-Ace headset.

    Drive:

    • Gipiemme pista 170mm spider with Origin8 45t ring, left side is Campa Record strada crank-arm, Shimano 107mm BB, KMC chain, velosolo 16t sprocket.

    Wheels:

    • Rims are ligthweightish Wolber Profil 18 (24holes); front hub is DT Swiss, probably with Ti shell; rear hub is Mack weightweenie single-sided. Front tub is Continental Olympic and rear is worn Vittoria Nuovo Pro

    Others:

    • Ti seatpost and yellow SLR seat, Mavic bullhorns and 3ttt stem (need longer though), Eggbeater 2ti pedals (for city cruising with touring shoes).
Weight: 6.980 grams (and can go less)

...And of course, the long extended seatpost is because of my height, which is not really compatible with lo-pro geometry, but the bike buys back this with its speed and great steel riding feel.
