The cost is the real problem... why would we do it?
Earls' Court cost over £4k in the end, all costs factored in (real figure somewhere, but this is a flippant response). That was including a hefty discount on the space, but not including insurance, furniture, photo wall, transport, music rights, internet, some refreshments, etc.
I thought it would be a good thing, deliver some derivative value to smaller companies around the community and give us a whale of a time. I really badly budgeted it though, and a lot of the costs surprised me in that I neither included them nor anticipated the price (such as internet on the stand being £400 for 4 days).
I can't justify anything like this type of cost again, a better use of that kind of money when it is available is to buy everyone several drinks and let you get sloshed (Bicycle Film Festival) or support big rides (coach back from Dunwich).
No more events for us, not unless there is a real reason to do it and ideally the opportunity to recoup costs (such as selling T-shirts).
