  • Gauging interest. I thought it'd be nice to start a regular meet up and ride about; I guess once a month. Maybe the first or last saturday of the month or something similar?

My idea is to meet up at the James Starley statue in town as a nod to Coventry's cycling heritage. Then pootle about the town centre/pick a route out of the city and end up at a pub/coffee place. Essentially, what we normally do but with a new meeting point ;)

Anyone up for making this a regular thing? I'd also suggest bringing mates along. It doesn't have to be a fixed gear thing, just a cycling thing. The more the merrier :) My hope is that it might expand our numbers a bit, and get more people involved. It'd be nice to see some new faces etc.

    Thoughts?

  • I'd be up for this but it's likely to conflict with work.

  • Due to irregular shift patterns? Doesn't have to be a weekend, any days more suitable?

  • Only get Tuesdays off, we could always do something after work with the nights getting lighter now.

  • I really need to start coming to these. So yeah, I'm in. Incidentally, a couple of times a week I do a little route out to the south of the city that's about 25 miles (can shorten it to 15 quite easily) so that might be a good candidate. There's one hill but otherwise flat, and a pub halfway through.

  • ^sounds like my kind of ride.

  • Sounds good! What's the route out of interest? I'm South Cov (Earlsdon). I've spent a lot of time riding out Stoneleigh/Leamington way, having just moved back from Leamington in November.

  • I was thinking it would be good to try and establish something, and maybe stick flyers up in some of the local bike shops to attract more people.

I vote a meet up at a pub somewhere to discuss :)

  • The route is go south past London Road Cemetary and down Leaf Lane, then over the motorway roundabout (there's a footbridge) and come out at Baginton, then go south and follow Stoneleigh road through Cubbington, then go south on Welsh road towards Southcote and turn left to go through Bascote to Long Itchinton, then head north-west towards Hunningham (there are two pubs on this road) then continue north until you get back to Baginton again.

That's 25 miles, or you can take a shortcut by turning left at Cubbingham and joining up with the road again near Hunningham, which takes it down to fifteen miles (but still past a pub). Quiet roads all round, too.

  • Draw up the route on ridewithgps.com. Great site for planning rides! I'm totally up for coming to a meet up. Currently living in Leamington and just got my new bike together. Bored out of my nut!

  • I'd be interested. Just a comment that getting over to Cov weekday evenings is a bit difficult unless I am working from home.

  • ...unless I am working from home.

    Euph? ;)

  • Interested, but can only do weekends.
No chance in the week 'cos of work.

  • I'm going on the shorter 15 mile ride on Friday (or possibly weekend) if anybody's up for coming.

I'm going for the 25 mile in about ten minutes too!

  • I'm going for the 25 mile in about ten minutes too!

    Bloody students ;)

  • ^ Just because I'm sitting at work, wishing I was out on the bike...

  • If it's any consolation, the first ride I've done in six weeks was bloody hard.

  • Lae, could you map out the route on the Ride With GPS site? I'm interested in what it's like and where it goes. It's always going to be tough after a while out of the saddle.

  • I can do this weekend, anyone else?

  • Sunday?

  • I might be able to do Sunday. I'll be with company (also fixed) but she is currently recovering from a broken patella so not sure about how far she'll be wanting to ride - especially if we have to ride from Leamington just to get to the start. I'll keep you guys posted though.

  • Working until 4 on Sunday so can meet up after.

  • You go up Mill Hill... Interesting... Mind, the hills between Bubbenhall and Bagington are pretty spectacular! I've ridden most of those roads. Nice and quite generally, but not sure I'd want to do it in the dark! I remember Welsh road being pretty good to ride on.

  • Sunday it is then!
    Meet at Starley Stat 12:00
