MMM... M1. I Still find it sacrilegious that they used the M1 name again.

Yup, that up there is the only M1 in my mind.
I also think the BASF branded ones were among my favourite looking cars when I was young.

That "horrific" one is Helios Blue, according to the website it comes from.
I was talking about the body kit and shite grill, I also mentioned that it's not really a good representation of the colour as it's a shot taken with a basic camera on a cloudy day.

It's basically the same thing.

Balls it is.
M1 - mid engined sports car. Very popular with folk of the hairy-chested variety.
1M - small leather box for the masses. Very popular with Homosexuals. -

Anyone recommend a good car to drive 2,800 miles in, for less than £250?
-
• #8060
I know the cars aren't the same but they've given the shitter one a dangerously similar name.

Old VW. Golfs and Polos can be had for nothing.
Alternatively a Micra/Swift/Alto.

Is it for a banger rally?

Anything Japanese and small or German and small. As NurseHolliday says...

The scrappage scheme did for a lot of decent sheds.
If you are using it for a banger rally, and taking a group of you, you could do worse than an old mondeo - lots of room, easy to fix, carries 4 in comfort

Will last forever but pricey on fuel and insurance.

Ford Granada Mk3 or Scorpio
Rover 827 or 820 turbo (not an 825 whatever you do)
Vauxhall Omega.
Saab 9000Basically any 80s or 90s car that is big and drinks a lot but has no trendy badge. Max depreciation = most car for smallest money.
German cars will be sheds or too pricey, though E class Mercs are cheap because they rust like buggery.
Mondeo-sized Japanese cars may be minicabs with millions of miles, but there's a bunch of Lexus LS400s getting cheaper by the day. -

I got an 88 Merc w126 420 off the bay for 380 quid about 4 years ago when i did a banger rally - did 6000 miles in it no probs, 2 armchairs and a sofa with half a ton of walnut in it, big V8 with no traction control meant 100m burnouts at most traffic lights
Happy days

Yep, it's for a banger rally! £250 max spend on the motor... As we're going to have to fork out for all the fuel, we're hoping for something economical, but that may not be possible.
I suppose it doesn't matter too much about rust / bodywork as long as it's mechanically sound.
I had thought about a french car as that's where we're going... but that may just be a bad idea.

I don't think a micra would serve us well, we've got 4 lads, and a ton of camping equipment to put in the boot. Plus lots of beer.

Also look for a left hooker - cheaper than RHD, and better for you in Europe - when i did my rally the limit was 250 too, but no one really stuck to that, as long as you are in the ball park i think its ok - this looks good
