oh hai! Though I wouldn't have called what you do advertising - Or maybe I've just completely misinterpreted what it is that you do :)

^^ the past 18 years, why?

I'll be a bit more specific - TV advertising (or any platform so long as it has video production at the core)

I'm in my mid twenties - have spent several years doing current affairs, news and other factual stuff for TV - starting as a runner, working my way up to producing reports and location producing some fairly big docs.

It's lovely and I'm lucky to have done it, but I'm not sure it's really me. #FirstWorldProblems

In October I left my job as a staff producer to indulge in some time being self employed.

I got a gig doing some writing almost immediately which is very lucrative by my previous standards but very time intensive and doesn't leave room for any other clients in the mean time until it runs out (It in theory gets renewed every three months so at the end of this month I can choose to do another three or walk away)

I've been thinking about just living off the money I make doing this writing gig which would last me a long time if I'm careful and building up some sort of contacts base and portfolio in the creative/production side of advertising and if I can get any paid work while I'm at it, fabulous.

But I have no idea how to go about this. Not having studied the more theoretical aspects like behavioural economics in any depth, my main understanding comes from scouring the internet looking for examples of work that I like and from bookmarking the IPA site.

So I'd be very grateful for any tips, pointers, sites, books, etc that anyone cared to throw out there. Or type here v
