is it not mildly ironic that parts of a 3D printer are made on a 3D printer?
Complete self replication is the goal.

what's the largest thing thats ever been printed? could we print a bike? the chain etc would be easy, I imagine the tubes would take a while
not that it would work but it would be an interesting project

It's the other way round; the frame is easy, and printed lugs have been done and discussed on another thread. A whole bike too. Printing a working chain would be difficult - the clearances are tiny, so you would need to avoid accidentally fusing parts which are micrometres apart.
-

but surely the easiest way would be to print the parts separately (plates, pins, bushes) and then assemble

and as for the 3d printed bike thread - that has to be the single biggest UTFS fail on my part

There isn't much point printing them if you then thrown them into a chain assembly machine anyway, not to mention that 3d printing isn't up to the dimensional tolerances and material properties required yet. Even if you're only making 1 chain, you need 112 pins, 112 rollers, 112 bushes, 112 inner plates and 112 outer plates, so it's not a prototyping process, it's a small batch production. You might be able to make the punches and dies to cut your plates on a 3d printer.

aye, i know it isn't a viable solution, but just for fun like.
just for the sake of doing it. do people not do that nowadays?

• #23012
They do, but if they discuss the idea beforehand someone, wherever you ar in the universe, will shoot you down.

Too much follow through.

Is anyone 6'2" that pedals a 58cm x 55.5cm (ct x cc)
I fancy buying this beaut from tel but perhaps I'm kidding myself

I have very little knowledge on sizes, a little help would be appreciated.

I'm 6"2 and that is the size I ride :)

Conversely, Theoryswine just said he's 6'2" and rides a 62. Better measure yourself

Could be invoking the nociceptors of your diaphragm- the referred pain from here goes to shoulders.
-
• #23022
^ Damn, that was going to be my answer...

• #23023
Referred pain is super interesting.

• #23024
You can probably explain why heartburn gives me toothache then???
-
• #23025
Not sure really, my initial thought was the heartburn had caused vagal nociceptors to fire, but as the teeth are under trigeminal innervation that doesn't make sense. The soft palate and back area of the tongue are vagally innervated, but tooth pain tends to be well localized.
Having witness something brutal tonight(15 mins to be exact), this draws me to the question.
How desperate/mental would you need to be to go on a show like "Take me out"?
Safe to say that you won't be able to go out in your home town after that!
