  • Rob got the Right bike going today and reports that it rides OK http://www.englishcycles.com/news/5th-january-2012/
Follow the thread back and you can see the amount of effort that has gone into this.

  • Fort

I know you've probably said before, but are you planning on a new coat of paint as well as the possible de-stickering?

  • speaking of which, is it entirely possible to clean a set of gumwall tyres?

ed, i was told (so untested!) that a toothbrush + polish would do really wonders. alternatively, if you are on a budget, you could substitute the polish (of which you need a lot) with toothpaste or any other stuff that contains pumice.

    should leave the sidewalls clean&intact...

  • White spirit cleans gumwalls and whitewalls up fine, both on my girlfriend's Raleigh roadster tyres and the cheap-ish Schwalbe 700cs that I used to have on my beater. I haven't noticed any damage to the rubber - but I don't know if they're natural rubber or synthetic, or if that would make a difference.

I'd say as long as you clean it off with plenty of water it should be fine. Perhaps soak an old tyre in the stuff to see what it does.

  • Cannondale's really nearly back to catalogue spec for the new track season

  • Petrol cleans everything.

    FACT

  • Not a bad idea. I've had a real good go with the acetone, and it does work...just hard going!

Was discussing this with a mate the other day. Think I'm going to ride it as is for a while, if I'm happy with it then I'll probably get it powder coated some mad flip (if they can...) the welds have been smoothed somewhat already, but not perfectly, what I'm wondering is if powdercoated will it smoothe over the slight imperfections and leave it looking something like this

or do I need to sand/smooth down the welds to perfection pre coat...?

  • You need to sand down and use filler then sand that down to get it that smooth.

  • Powdercoat will probably destroy the filler (unless you use lead or some other high-temp filler), and you can't really get flip/candy/pearlescent/proper metallic powdercoats either. I've read about companies that do pearlescent powdercoats but I've never seen them.

Get it painted properly, I say, by a specialist automotive/custom painter. House of Kolor ftw.

are those SUN rims? are you going to look for that Kingsberry seatpost or are you leaving that DA?

very nice effort overall, do you plan to leave those remaining black patches of MaxC's artistry or are you going to make if clean finally?

Sun rims yeah. I'll be getting an American classic seatpost (standard fit in '94) and I'll be cleaning it as much as possible. The bits left are real tough.

  • nice, looking forward to seeing it finalized

  • toothbrush and polish eh? I already took the tyres off and hoping I can soak it in something...

  • Petrol.

    FFS can't you hear me?

^ just in case ed's got you on ignor.

Added a NOS 3ttt Criterium 78 saddle and some fresh Newbaums cloth tape.

Where did you get the Newbaums tape?

Yeah but, how much is that going to cost me!?

  • Colourtech will do it for less than a ton. In the grand scheme of things it's not much more than a shitty powdercoat job from Armortex.

  • fiddy dowrah for a blast & coat oop north...

  • But yeah, what's an extra £50 . In no rush so will do a bit of research.

    From the current projects page:

It's an Armourtex job - Ral 9005, with Emerald Illusion* finish, because I like Ponies and Unicorns.

    Sparkly closeups (click for bigger):

It looks much greener in the light.

  • Eddy is all but done, barring a couple of tweaks. Been riding it for a couple of weeks now. Went for TB14s, which so far I'm very happy with. It's a comfortable ride.

  • Loved it, a bike can make you feel good to ride just simply base on how good it look.

Check out Gran Bois tyres for classic gumwall look/performance.

  • Got some Veloflex gumwalls to go on it actually but not got round to fitting them.

  • Chapeau M.Swine! Lovely bike!

Ed - are you on some referral/kickback/payola scheme with Grand Bois?
