    Thank so much in advance!!

  • That's really shit. Sorry

  • ^ ^ this :(

whereabouts in London is your flat Joel - might be helpful for people to keep an eye out if it's local to them or if there are known places where stolen bikes are flogged on.

  • Thanks, I live in Kentish town, NW5, around the Queens crescent area.

  • Just thought I'd post that my road bike was stolen on Christmas day from right outside my flat. (unlocked as I live on the 6th floor of a gated block at the end of a row, and was just popping in)

Frame: Cannondale R500 in dark blue, 60 cm. some dents on the top tube.
Wheels: Dura-Ace hubs, Ambrosio Excellence rims 32H 9sp.
finishing kit was a mix of Ultegra and other bits, Tiagra shifters, cinelli stem, Specialized carbon seatpost, Black Flite Ti saddle, Bontager RaceLight cranks. pretty tidy bike, if you see it round london, especially near victoria park/hackney, please let me know.

  • Any pics Mobidog?

Keep your eyes open for the bike in your flat. I'd guess somebody on that floor stole it. Why not go by their doors and ask if they've seen it. They might just confess and give you some lame excuse why they have it.

  • Mods, please delete this post as i have duplicated it and cant find a way of deleting it, sorry!!

My rather unique Langster has just been stolen from outside Nev’s place in St Pauls Cray, Orpington, Kent.
I suspect it was nicked by some local “oiks” because a really crap bike was dumped where mine was taken from.
Please will you keep your eyes open to see if it pops up anywhere, either in the real world or on the internet?
Description as follows as with the features that it had I think it’s pretty unique and quickly recognisable:-
    Dark Green Specialized Langster
    Brown bar tape
    Map holder attachment on bars
Bar end shifter (3 speed) on right bar end only
    Brooks Swallow (brown) saddle
    Tubas fly L/W rear rack
    S/A 3 speed hub gear
32 spokes in front wheel, 28 spokes in rear wheel
Race Blade mudguards in imitation carbon fibre effect material
    Frame number 70689980
Also registered with Bikeregister.com so it has a white code stencilled on the underneath of the down tube.
Please also feel free to post this anywhere else you think may be useful.

    Cheers

  • oh and if i cant get them back, can anyone tell me how much would it cost to get replacements? ideally cheaper alternatives as i cant bear to have it stolen again

  • ^ sad.

Lesson learned I guess, don't leave road bikes locked up over night in a public place.

So you need new bars, shifters, cables and fork. Assume the front wheel was still there? You'll need a new front brake too I guess.

    Your situation is a PITA because unless you know how to reassemble it you are a bit stuck. If you are mechanically minded or know how to put it all together again you have two options;

buy all the bits yourself at the best price and fix
cut loses and split the rest and sell

if you don't know how to do either of these your options are limited because you'll have to either source the parts yourself and pay someone to assemble them, or just pay someone to sort the whole thing out.

Getting the parts yourself will be tricky because there's a good chance you'll buy the wrong thing - there are gotchas. For example the headset bearings that allow the front fork to turn may have dropped out when the fork was taken. Could you get replacement bearings? When you get a new fork you'll have to cut the steerer down and fit a new crown race. Is this something you can do? It will certainly be time consuming.

Paying someone to sort it all out will get you on the road again, but it will be expensive.

Here's roughly the costs (new cost) / (used cost)

    Bars: £20 / £5 +
    Shifters: £200 / £75+
    Fork: £120 / £55 +
    Cables: £10+ / ?
    Front brake: £40 / £15 +
    Headset: £40+ / £20

labour: £80 / free if DIY

Sorry, no easy answer to this. You could see it as a project and a way of looking at how bikes are put together, but it is time consuming and can turn out very expensive. If you need to get on the road again fast, you may be better off cutting your loses and selling what's left or buying something else as a stop gap. Or you could just throw money at it and get someone to source the parts and rebuild it for you.

  • Some one i know just had there Grandis low pro Stolen a few days ago from there house, in the west midlands, oxford i think (only know him over the net)

in the chance any one has any info, Email him on sgtwo68@yahoo.co.uk

    Thanks.

  • ^seen this on gumtree, will keep eyes open.

edit: seen HIS post, not the bike on gumtree.

  • maybe i'm being unfair... but shit description and low feedback. if not maybe this belongs in the ebay thread.

    anyone lost a fuji track?

  • I don't think you're being unfair, and pretty much agree with your initial descriptions. Less than an hour to go before it lands on some lucky punters doorstep too.........

  • It's tempting to buy it and leave it posted on here to reconnect rider and bike...... or as you say malandro is that us being cynical? Possibly. If it is genuine then I apologise hugely.

  • hi everyone,

Last week my cable lock was snipped outside the Barbican centre main entrance on Silk Street. The thief's prize was a Genesis Flyer 2009 single speed, bright green frame.

There's a very suspicious looking ad on gumtree for a 2011 genesis flyer (only a stock catalogue photo, no description, bargain price) in Angel, 20min walk from where it was stolen. [URL="http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/single-speed-genesis-flyer/93667864"]

The phone number given won't work so I guess it has already been sold. Anyway, if anyone's seen or come across it please let me know!

ps I learnt my lesson, I now have a decent D lock. Just need a bike....
