  • Looks like it is going to the Bay.

  • If only it had track drop outs.

  • ^ could be just what the Mrs is looking for. Give it a few hours and I will let you know. Just put a thread up for a small alu road bike for her, looks like she may get carbon.

  • what's the (57cm) all about?

  • The manufacturer provided only the weight of a 57cm frame, so I quoted it for reference.
The one for sale is 51cm (C-to-T).

    what's the (57cm) all about?

  • No sure how that worked, but that is testament to the technology and thinking at the time.

  • Oh I see what you did there, I have shown the wife and she's keen, problem is her trust in early carbon.
    Any reassuring comments welcomed.

  • I am actually restoring a bigger version of that frame at the moment in Australia , it took a while to work out what it was with no decals at all . The centre section of the 3 main tubes is consructed by filament winding (angled fibres) and the long "lugs" are unidirectional fibre made in a "regular" fashion with inflated bladders etc.

Found this article (http://velonews.competitor.com/2002/12/bikes-and-tech/technical-faq/technical-qa-with-lennard-zinn-carbon-forks-2_3270) on VeloNews.com. Seems that carbon doesnt fatigue like metals do, so the main risks are quality control and crashes.

I owned it since 2004 and rode no more than once a month since then. It was never crashed. If there is manufacturing problem it should have shown by now. I guess the overbuilt tubes and joints also give it extra strength and longevity (though not necessary stiffness!) Again you are welcome to view at near New Cross Gate.

  • ps the mid section of the main tubes (unpainted) is Carbon/Kevlar (black and gold) and the fork/headset is exactly the same as Vitus 992

see the attached photo for a few other filament wound patterns that can be generated in carbon alone

the only thing to keep an eye on should be the joints with the lugs, and if Alan frames from the 80's are still going strong, these should be fine
(assuming the bonding materials are similar !)

  • Beautiful. My size too. Wish I had the cash!

  • **SOLD **to NurseHolliday. Look forward to your project.
