  • I hadn't seen this thread until now, but a big +1 from me on Let England Shake. I've never really 'got' PJ before, and she's definitely never put out an album I want to listen to again and again, but that's definitely the case with this one.

It's a fantastic album - inventive, original, eccentric and utterly creative - she pulls off tricks on it which I think few other musicians could get away with but I really think it works brilliantly. Apparently she did a lot of research before starting the album - especially into World War I, and while this doesn't show directly, it does show. The lyrics are very dark, but it doesn't sound dark, it feels sort of light and bouncy. It's just a really interesting, good album which keeps on rewarding with each listen.

I bought the CD and everything so I must like it :)

Skully, live is a different conversation, but the Wave Pictures were definitely my live band of the year. Again, I think. The best thing to ever have come out of Loughborough.
