Rumour had it some Benottos were made in Mexico.
TRUE and they fell apart. Those gave Benotto a bad name. He moved production there.
We had guys who were messengers on them in NYC and they would crack alot or tubes would come apart.
http://www.benottobicycle.com/site/aboutThe Benotto family name has been synonymous with great cycling achievements since 1931. Founded in Torino, Italy by Giacinto Benotto, a 24 year old bicycle racer who, like many in the bicycle industry, wanted to begin a commercial career and incorporate the love of cycling into it. After 20 years of successful production in Italy and 3 world championships claimed on Benotto bicycles, Benotto expanded their horizons and moved to Mexico to open new markets, where they continue to have a great influence on the sport and on Latin America.

FBA, its not earlier than yours, it has FD braze on which was around 83-84 they were showing up on bikes.
Clamp on FD were still the norm in early 83 and before.

Some help please - please excuse the naiveity of this question.
On the pictures below (the cream frame) I have a question about the brake mounting. These are the best pictures I can find at the moment - unfortunately I am out of the country so clearer pictures will be hard to come by.
Essentially there is a threaded bolt brazed onto the frame (both front and rear) and then universal cx brakes slot onto this and are held in place by a threaded nut. Unfortunately there are several bits and pieces missing from the brakes (bolts and springs). I was hoping to either replace the brakes for something of a similar vintage or something else altogether. However I am not sure quite what I am looking for as my research for universal cx brakes shows them with the threaded bolt attached to them (rather than mounting to it on the frame).
I hope this makes some sort of sense. Several months working in Vietnam sans any bike has me dreaming of my return to the UK in February ready to get on with a few projects... You help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Any one know what fix kit has been used to deal with the freewheel stub on this?
Its on a falcon build on ebay and I cant work out how he's done it cos its on its orig
1970's 5 speed wheels un-dished etc hence the 'tube' thing to sort out the chain line.
or am i talking BS and that's a cassette hub from 1970? seems unlikely as the build is a cheap one........or could be rare 1978 Shimano 600EX high flange Uniglide hubs??? -

^I've got a wheel with one of those adapters on, pretty sure it's freewheel. I'll have a look tomorrow and shed any light if possible.

I would like to get some info about this frame and the tubing.
I just bought it cheap and I will change those vertical dropouts to horisontals.
I know it it a Italy frame and the seller guess it it something between 93-99's

de bernardi good Italian maker. frame no.s are your friend as they still exist and you could ask them to date it.
acciaio = steel
c mn v = chrome vanadium
so not wonderful tubes methinks but no doubt i will be corrected.

raleigh wn7 code but will be from '88 range or later - shares some common features with 600 select rra - like the underslung cable holes and the lugs and the cast top lug/clamp plus the pump peg and the chain peg. - but forks and stays almost certainly not 531
but will be further down in the line up.
anyone know where i can see the '88 catalogue (89/90)? or just know the model? seems to be bronze like colour underneath the white paint .
