  • Just remembered I forgot to mention probably my favourite EP of 2011

TRAVELSEX - Maria And The Mirrors - YouTube

    Link Wray must be confused.

    Good call, really good album.

  • black keys - el camino
    kasabian - velociraptor

  • Thanx for all the answers, it's appreciated. The mixtape angle is one I've not considered... there's a guy that was working in my local TESCO pushin his on the till, I bought one and it's great!

I couldn't get past spotify's horrible looking interface and adverts and digitalness when I first used it a while back. I genuinely think that 44.1k is actually somehow a bad vibration. /tinfoilhat

I'm glad that the explosion of 'free stuff' on the interminablenet ten years ago seems to have made live music more important than evar. Though The Cure @ £300 a ticket can fuck right off.

    ace!

  • I hadn't seen this thread until now, but a big +1 from me on Let England Shake. I've never really 'got' PJ before, and she's definitely never put out an album I want to listen to again and again, but that's definitely the case with this one.

It's a fantastic album - inventive, original, eccentric and utterly creative - she pulls off tricks on it which I think few other musicians could get away with but I really think it works brilliantly. Apparently she did a lot of research before starting the album - especially into World War I, and while this doesn't show directly, it does show. The lyrics are very dark, but it doesn't sound dark, it feels sort of light and bouncy. It's just a really interesting, good album which keeps on rewarding with each listen.

I bought the CD and everything so I must like it :)

Skully, live is a different conversation, but the Wave Pictures were definitely my live band of the year. Again, I think. The best thing to ever have come out of Loughborough.

  • this thread's so good i've decided to unflounce to log in and say cheers for the recomendations. plenty of great stuff i'd have otherwise missed.

  • Another vote for El Camino here.
SBTRKT have provided me with some quality beats too.

  • Loving Wesseltoft Schwarz Duo (On Spotify)!

:) good music never dies Dooks and you knows it, nice to see you posting.

  • Hi Dooks, missed your musical contributions to the forum. Any new soundclouds to share?

  • Hai guiz! just to say, got myself about half of the albums mentioned on this thread, and really enjoying them cheers for all the tips.

  • Jonathan Wilson - Gentle Spirit

This album still gets me. I find subtleties months after listening to it which bring me back to it. Cannot speak highly enough of it.

  • The best thing to ever have come out of Loughborough.

Hardly a surfeit of stiff-competition; trains excepted.

  • Oh shit, how could I forget the Dark Dark Dark record, its fucking aces.

    ^ this.

Thanks to whoever mentioned timber timbre, never heard that before, and really enjoying it!

Tell you what ain't subtle, his abuse of vibrato. Like canned laughter, it absolutely ruins it. Such great production otherwise, such a shame.
