From what I've heard that Lulu collaboration is an even bigger dog than Lou has turned into on his own.

metallica/ lou reed - lolu
Can't tell if ironic typo or knowing joke...

Lulu is fucking horrendous, I still dont understand how it made it into the wire's end of year list.

I was a bit late to the party finding out about that album, but when I did I truly spoiled myself with derision. Lou's hubris knows no bounds. He's such a boring shit. I couldn't care less about Metallica but from all the footage I've laughed through it's clear they're mortified by the bad idea turned even worse the finished project has become, while it's even more clear Lou could not care less as he's pretty convinced his reputation sails right over the top of it, which it doesn't, and that Metallica are no more than another backing band who should weep with pleasure that he chooses to work with them. He's got no integrity whatsoever, and even less artistic merit.
I do love my Transformer era Mick Rock t-shirt though.

I really want to hear the things mentioned in this thread, but I don't trust myself with being able to keep mp3s so I refuse to buy them. I don't really trust music I can't hold. Maybe 2012 is the year I getwiththeprogrammez.
Can anyone tell me: is anything mentioned on this thread not available thru iTunes? In other words, does anything get thru without their sayso? I know it's probably a boring thing to ask this but I'm curious. Serious question to the yoof and you eternal teenagers who dig all the new stuff.

In hip-hop, most definitely.
2011 has been one of the strongest on record for 'mixtapes' i.e. self-released albums put out by the artist with little, if any, commercial backing. Not sure if this floats your boat but here are five of the better mixtapes from the year (in my opinion):
Main Attrakionz - 808s and Dark Grapes 2
Main Attrakionz - Take 1 ft. ASAP Rocky (Prod. by Clams Casino) - YouTube
Blu - Jesus
Blu - Jesus - Jesus LP (Prod. by Madlib) - YouTube
Elzhi - Elmatic
Elzhi - Detroit State of Mind - Elmatic - YouTube
Danny Brown - XXX
Danny Brown - Die Like A Rockstar (Prod. by Skywlkr) - YouTube
Big K.R.I.T - Return of 4Eva
BIG K.R.I.T. - "Dreamin''" - YouTube

I've never bought anything from iTunes - you old, old, old...old, curmudgeonly old, old man, you.
Get 'Kaputt' by Destroyer. Cos it's lovely. And it comes on a round disc of plastic with foil on one side.

... getwiththeprogrammez.
... iTunes?About 90% of what has been mentioned in this thread is on Spotify. Hence iTunes is hardly value anymore. Spotify can be a bit late with the new stuff sometimes, but that's my only complaint.

There will always be younger people making new music.
Some of it's good.
This thread smacks of fashion over content though. Just saying.
Two pages and no Thin Lizzy?
