I was just shaking the creases out of a wet shirt just before hanging it up. I shock it too vigerously and hit the ceiling light/shade quite hard and broke the hanger. The light is fine, except it's now really bright!
Why is the light brighter?

you've knocked all the dust off it?
If it is an incandescent bulb it is probably about to fail, done this sort of thing, but don't know why it glows brightly before it fails though -

I've got no idea. I almost thought it's because the light was obscured by my flailing clothes, but it definately is brighter.
Dust might be a point. It's one of those cheap white jap lantern things.

you will have damaged the filament, my layman's understanding is this will increase the resistance, so it will burn more brightly, but it is likely to burn out pretty quickly
-
• #22756
Decreased resistance caused by shorting one of the turns on the filament, leading to higher current and therefore higher filament temperature, which means faster burn out.

Either that or the shock of nearly busting the light caused an adrenaline surge, opening up your irises and making the light seem brighter.

Who knew.
I shall make preparations to buy a light bulb in the event this one dies.
... so can anyone recommend a light bulb? Something fairly light, and strong (it'll be used on a regular basis). Not too fussed about colour, something bright, but soft would be good.
I know Hope are recommended, but they're a little out of my price range.

I sent something about the size of a cereal box there using royal mail.

I meant in a cheap-ish way. Someone in Sweden wants my wheels.

Er, can't you just watch Strictly on eye-player?

Use a parcel aggregator like www.parcel2go.com or www.interparcel.com for the cheapest price.
But in my experience, there is now cheap way to ship wheels, i.e. it'll cost close to £50.

Has anyone tried peening the rivets on a Brooks saddle? My B17 has several sticking slightly out now and I literally don't have a pair of trousers left without holes! I know that I could probably gently hammer the top of the rivet with a flathead or something underneath but will this damage it?

Try hammering it gently, or send it back to brooks to get them to do it.
Cone and locknut on each side of hub should be "locked" together.
