best advice yet, although i am not too sure of the materials strength, as it will be hit wid a hammer!

Hmm, might not stand up to repeated bashing. Assumed you meant like an ink stamp or something. What's the material it would be bashed into? Leather?

I found a brass stamp maker somewhere, but I guess that'd be too soft for you? What material are you stamping into?

i did a search, and found them, but they want 100 odd quid for anything remotely usable.
i need something rustic (but not spuds either)

Any urgency? I used to know a couple of lathe type/CNC folk will see if they're still local.
