Thats a good weight loss there. What is the current weight of the bike and for us not so much in the know of UCI weight restrictions what is the target weight?

I've had this old broom for 20 years, it's had 7 new heads and 3 new handles...
Not sure what it is about Cannondales (late 90s mtb desirability?) but one day I'll treat myself.

UCI minimum weight is 6.8, the bikes been below that but then I fitted a powermeter, which brought it back over.
The last few changes I've made should drop ~100g and bring it back again.
This is the bike when stock, and what motivated me to drop some weight- both the bike and myself, I'm 10kg lighter now, than when the photo was taken:
This is the most recent shot of the complete bike:
6.85kg as pictured.

Since then, new wheels:
New seatpost and handlebars:

And a terrible photgraph taken during a great ride with the Brixton Cycles lot:
I'm waiting on a High Mod fork from a SuperSix, to stiffen the front slightly, then I'll see where we've got to- I'd hope 6.7kg including PowerControl 5, which is 75g.

I was going to ask about the fork.
What bottle cages are those?
Looking good, and well done on the how-to guide. Nicely done.

Cages are Smud Carbon
-

Cheers. Would you recommend them?
Mine are hideously ugly. Not sure I should have googled smud, as there are a whole host of parts in my price range. However, they'll have to wait until I get new wheels...which will have to wait until spring.

I find them to be absolutely fine- but be aware you need to use bottles which are ever so slightly conical.
I've only got conical bottles (Tacx Source), so this is not an issue for me.
Just found a shot of the bike when it was "as factory":
And then some changes:

That stem has got to go!
-
• #12
Agreed. Horrible.

• #13
It's staying, boat anchor that it is.
I'm open to suggestions, but I really think that anything else would look too small on top of that headtube.
To match the bars and seatpost a 3T Arx Ltd would make sense I suppose, but I don't think that would look right.

that stem looks like

Massively disagree with you on that, something really slim and delicate in contrast would look good imo.
That said I really like the systemsix one, plus it's original, so I wouldn't change it. It does look a lot better now you've lost the lower spacers.

• #16
Excuse the indelicacy but that stem is akin to a steaming black molassine turd
-
• #17
But to put an Arx stem (for example) on there you'd have a 1.5" to 1 and 1/8th" transition to manage.
I think it would end up looking "perched" on top of the headtube.

the stem is fine.

My first choice (aesthetically) would be:
Otherwise I still think Ritchy make the nicest looking ones out there.
Or maybe for lolz:
I'd still keep the current one. It's unique, and works.

Or I could do this, but I don't want to:
-

Jokes.
Are you trying to find versions of your bike where people have switched the stem? I've just tried to do that. It's fucking hard, almost everyone's kept the original... which says something.
But I stand by my point. If that ^ one had a black stem (or even better the Crank Bros one I posted) it would work. The headset cap creates the transition.

Would be good if you could get this without the ghastly detailing...

re: the bottle cages, was there not some chat about the being a WW novelty and not actually that secure/solid?
It could have been the bmxed's Giant, in which case ignore.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/pro-star-series-mark-cavendish-carbon-road-stem/You'd still have the situation where the headtube rises up, tapers slightly at the top cap, goes straight up at the spacer, and then BAM, there's the stem, sat on top of the spacer, looking like an afterthought. I'll chuck another stem on there when the fork turns up (maybe tomorrow) to demonstrate what I'm talking about.

People who have not used them did say that they couldn't be very good.
I have used them, and reckon they are fine- a very elegant engineering solution.
I've had this bike from new, and in that time have replaced everything bar the stem.
The motivation behind this is to create a bike that is at the UCI legal limit for weight, with no limitations on rider weight.
Today it was the pedals turn to be tweaked slightly.
I had the entry level Chromoly Speedplay Zero pedals, and decided to replace the axles with aftermarket titanium ones.
The procedure I followed is here: https://www.lfgss.com/thread77731.html#post2600107
The result is 59g dropped, and any worries about corrosion banished:
