• Dear friends,

I have recently bought a pair of 90s campag athena brakes, quite similar to these:

The issue I was having is that I wished to run them on a pair of deep section vento wheels, but the pads have worn down significantly, and the small V metal piece coming out from underneath the brake shoe has started to rub against the deep section.

I decided to order a pair of Kool Stop pre2000 campagnolo brake pads in the hope this would resolve the issue, but the metal piece of the brake shoe still runs very close to the deep section. Evidently the brake pads are not thick enough to give enough room to run them down a few mm and for the shoe to lie clear of the rim.

I am aware I could just get new brake shoes, but the original campag ones look superb, aesethics are my downfall I fear. I've tried bending the metal V bit down but it seems pretty tough to move.

I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem and if any resolutions had been found. Your advice is, as always, very much appreciated.

    Laurence
