  • Im based in nr colchester and up for some riding in January...?

  • all assuming we're not snow covered!

  • Maybe those round brentwood can do a ride to colchester (Pick up any chelmsford people on the way) and you can ride back with us.

  • sounds like a good idea, then just jump on a train back to colchester (dont fancy the 40 odd mile trip back on my own!!) although i have another friend who might be interested...

how many people do you generally get on a ride?

  • Usually not many. Although we peaked at 7 on the shenfield to frinton

  • yea kinda bummed i missed out on the frinton one as i live just down the road from there!

  • Maybe a better route would be if we rode to Braintree and met you there. Then ride back past Chelmsford where anyone who's flagging can get the train (probably me if I'm on the Barry Hoban!)

How about we throw a date down for this then?

but yea that route sounds good to me...

  • Oh. I googled it and one website said it was a holiday on the 3rd. On checking again I see it isn't.

Yeah the 2nd is good for me too. I'll edit the post above

  • mad? yeaaaa boy!!!! erm i will get a brake just when i can afford it!, people seem to think its a massive deal of which i suppose it can be, just depandant on where you live and ride, like i ride in the country and can see obsticles from a long way off. I've been riding bmx and jump bikes brakeless for years, and you cant slow down using resistance. admittedly though for a daily commuter or for more riding in general brakes are a sensible idea of course!

  • i've got no problems with riding fixed brakeless, it can be pretty safe depending on where and how you ride, but have you tried using toe clips and straps? do your feet not have a tendency to lift off the pedal slightly when your spinning fast down hills?

i ride without straps on my fixed polo bike but i think falling off is more common than on the road so the need to get out quick is more important

  • yea they can do actually, as i just wrote on another thread, im waiting on some straps and then ill fit my dmr V8's

was talking to a friend last night about spd's but thats crazy ha ha

  • spd's scare me. too many horror stories on here about worn cleats ending in faceplants

  • hey, I'm in colchester, maybe up for a ride some time but january isn't a great time. cycled from colchester to plymouth in summer in 5 days which was fun, but never again on a single speed.

  • Mapped a route for the bank holiday ride, 45 miles. Jimmy: meet you at braintree station while we have a rest? I have some toe clips and straps you can borrow for the ride if you want

  • Rode with Amygdala the other day, he said he may well be up for this as well, and there's a guy from London coming, so possible total of 5.
    **
Matt and Amygdala**: I'm meeting the london guy at Shenfield station at 11, so see you there?

  • See you at 11. Feels like months since I've ridden (just laying the foundations for my lack I pace!)...

  • Shall we say 1pm tomorrow at Braintree station Jimmy?
    my number is .

  • Sadly will have to bail on this ride. The weather looks great though, so hope you have fun on those lanes

  • re-organise to sunday?
