It's not going to depreciate, so holding that frame is just like holding cash. May even be better than that; buy for €2500 now, sell for $2500 next year and convert into €5000 :-)

Massive assumption, especially as the number of people who can afford these expensive objects isn't likely to increase any time soon.

The number of people who can afford these expensive objects is increasing at a prodigious rate; suggesting otherwise indicates a very parochial view of the economy.

Different types of bike frame become fashionable or unfashionable in a way that cash simply doesn't. If you want an investment put the money in a bank, if you want joy of an object buy the frame.
Personally I don't like the idea of turning bicycle parts into investment opps. in the long run it will only ruin it for those (like me) who don't have big piles of cash.

Not sure what has everyone been drinking over the last week, but guessing too much of it :-)
- The last place for investment is to put money in the bank.
- The richer people with expendable money are making more money from financial unrest and the rich/poor gap is increasing
- Building a new frame to look like a rare older frame is completely missing the point
- It is much more satisfying to own a nice object to look at or use than looking at a your paper investments (which can also go down as well as up)

If you still think cash doesn't go in and out of fashion, have a look at the gold price.

So..... the answer is, a frame made of 24k solid gold

Not sure about this, especially when my idea was to re-build with a more modern 1 1/8 setup, meaning a wider variety of forks could be used, rather than wound ups or rare forks that haven't had steerers cut right down.
The bike was a one off. So the only way of me owning one, other than the original, is to re-make one, seeing as the GT track frame is my favourite ever (personal taste/lack of it) and especially a titanium. I have emailed the guys at Triton to discuss the possibility, seeing as $2500 plus shipping and tax can basically go to Chevron city.

You'd be able to get 3 or 4 Tritons for that kind of money, I'm all about a bit of heritage but there's a point where it just doesn't make sense.

Absolute tosh.
I've made far more money from buying and selling bike parts infact, buy, USING and selling bike parts (and photographic equipment) than I ever have from interest earned from savings.
Show me a bank that can give a 300% return on a barely triple figure investment in 6 months.

"investment" isn't really the right term for how most people use a "bank account"*.
It's more about keeping money in a safe place - ie not at risk of being stolen, and traditionally making a little over inflation.
- current account / low interest savings account.

Oh, maybe you're right. I just remember seeing the orange ones he had got from andypancake as I hadn't seen custom ones before then. Might have swapped them over or I may be trippin'.
