  • Did you use the lap/reset option before starting the ride? Looks like you might have two rides added together with a jump from the end of one to the start of another?

  • Garmin have just added some fantastic new functionality to the Connect site. You can now create courses and send them to your device very easily, plus you can convert any previous ride into a course by clicking one button. Happy bunny!

  • Gah!

I tracked a ride on Saturday, but forgot to turn on my Edge 705 for parts of the route. Idiot. I've uploaded to ridewithgps.com, in an attempt to drag other parts of the route into shape (it doesn't seem to interpolate the route, either in gpx or tcx format). Basically, it doesn't work. Does anyone have any tips about modifying routes, whether I should be using some other mapping software (I couldn't seem to get my head round bikeroutetoaster).

Also, at some point I found some kind of web based programme that converted tracks into routes effectively, so that you could bypass the 100 waypoint issue that my Edge has. But now I can't remember where that was, and can't find it on Connect or Training Center.

    Any ideas?

  • Was it gps visualizer?

Get hold of mapsource for manipulating gpx files

  • Don't think so but thanks for the mapsource tip.

  • Have you already tried uploading it to Connect as a course and manipulating it from there? I think they only added this functionality in Sept (see Bainbridge's post above) but it seems pretty simple to drag out routes from what I've seen so far...

  • I did try that, but my netbook wouldn't upload it for some reason (either through Internet Explorer or Firefox).

  • Hmm... and the netbook has the Gamin Communicator plugin thingy?

  • I have two laptops, both Windows 7, one is 32 bit and that works fine, the other is 64 bit and simply will not connect to either of my Garmins.

    Any ideas chaps?

Yeah, I downloaded the plugin too. Mysterious.

  • Any android gps apps that can upload to Garmin Connect without too much faff ? Don't want to take my garmin on the commute, but would still like to upload my mileage into the Connect Calender.

Can do it by transfering My Tracks GPX files to my PC and uploading from there, but would like a direct upload from my phone.

  • ^Bit late to the party, but does Garmin Fit do that?

EDIT: Have just downloaded and it does. Automatically in fact.

  • Right, this is the current situation:

    • Find a route on Garmin Connect that looks good
-Turn it into a "Course" using the option in GC
      -Edit it
      -"Send to device"

When I then check it, none of the edits are on the version saved to the device.

    WTF?

  • Whatever you do: DON'T PHONE GARMIN SUPPORT!!!

I bought an Edge 705 a couple of years ago and phoned them because as already stated their instructions are crap.

All I got was a condescending put-down by a public schoolboy toff.

If I could of, I would have pulled him through the phone by his short-and-curlies and grinded his knackers with a rusty cheese grater.

And I'm not of a violent persona...

  • I give up, this is mental- you save the file, then go to "send it to device" and it sends the original file to the device. Again and again.

  • If you click on this http://connect.garmin.com/course/361628
what is the title of the course?

  • Christmas day ride

  • Neil just save it and dump it in the newfiles folder if it is an 800 or gpx if its a 705

  • I can find no option to do that- only "send to device".

I'd have saved it as a GPX/tcx otherwise and dumped it in the courses folder.

  • Does anyone know of a way of saving a course to your desktop?

  • Anyone know how to get tcx files onto an etrex?

  • Anyone know how to get tcx files onto an etrex?

    Convert to GPX here

    http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/

Or open in mapsource and send to etrex, it sends it as a track.

  • I used GPSies in the end. Unfortunately it truncated the track and route when I uploaded to the device.

Is there a way to reduce the waypoints or track points so as to get a useful course without overloading the device?

  • That idea crossed my mind but I want a quicker option

  • That idea crossed my mind but I want a quicker option

Mapsource has a filter option for track points, I have mine set at 500 i.e. the maximum for a track
