    Seat tube 57cm c-t
    Top tube 55cm c-c

    More and bigger pics here.

This is really my dream frameset, and I would have ridden it in next year's l'Eroica, if it weren't 2cm too small. I found a lookalike, a bit younger, in size 60 but I'm still looking for a 59/57 in this exact spec... Anyway it's got he nicest lugwork and fork crown, butterfly brake bridge... and the most beautiful colour combo imho. Its frame number dates it 1975 according to the Gazelle serial number database.

It is 36 years old, so has suffered some paint chips and small scratches in its lifetime. Some small spots of surface rust, nothing disturbing. Please see the detailed pics for that. It is however straight and - besides the slightest of indentations from the band-on front derailleur - there's no dings or dents. The decals are still looking great too.

On to the technical details. There's 3, but they're easy to overcome:

Firstly, I had to saw off about 4mm of the forks in order to get them out. The headset and stem were impossible to remove otherwise, except for putting a torch to it and ruining the paint, that is. So a low stack headset is needed. I tried a simple BLB/no name 1" chrome set and it fits fine, with thread to spare. I'll include that headset for €10 if the buyer should wish so.

Second is the fork, taking the bike apart I found a shim between the fork crown race and the steerer tube. The tube there is just too small in diameter to keep it on. So a new shim, or an increase in diameter by applying a couple of drops of solder, is needed to get it on tightly.

Lastly, the seatpost binder bolt will need a small ring for bracing itself against the seatpost lug because some heart and/or mindless criminal once fitted a too small diameter seatpost.

This vintage beauty can be yours for €135 delivered in the UK. Other countries please ask for a shipping quote.

  • where abouts are you situated?

  • i live in Bikeland, also known as the Netherlands. you're welcome to drop by anytime though, or, perhaps more conveniently, ask away if there's anything in particular you want to know about this frameset

    cheers

  • pm returned

  • ok, sorry,

Didnt see there was already a link with more pic :o

  • Gazelle frame sized 57-58-59 all have the same geometry (except for the headtube and seattube length).
    From 60cm (c-t) onwards they're getting longer.
57-59 is more or less the same.
    60-62 are similar
    63-66 are similar
    53-56 are similar

  • Thanks for that info DC! So I could just put in a long stem and seat post... but I don't like the look of bikes set up like that. And it just felt too small when I tested this one last summer. I probably indeed need a longer model.

    now €130

  • Today I found the exact same frame in my size :)

I'll be selling this one for 115 euros delivered (that's less than I paid for my frame here in Holland!)

  • might be able to include a free headset too

  • some questions answered:

It's 531 tubing like 99.99% of all Gazelle Champion Mondials

The frame and fork weigh 2150 (frame) 740 + (fork) = 2890 (total) grams

A bigger bolt/nut or a slightly larger (than normal bolt flange) diameter ring is needed for the seattube lug, one side of it is dented so a normal sized seatpost binder bolt would not be able to clamp it. I'll have a rummage around in the hardware store to try to find an elegant solution

    cheers
