ok but you have been warned...

  • yea its brakeless for the mo till the new year, but i live way out in the country, so immediate stops arent reaally neccesary in the country lanes, i will put a brake on it when i can though...

  • id advise you also to add another few links in the chain and fit the rear wheel properly

  • a longer chain would be advisable.

    .

  • cheers for the heads up though C.B. is it likely to break then? im fairly lanky and i've kinda riden with most of my seat posts like that. admittedly never a road frame...

  • .

    already done!

  • ^ I was pointing it out to apolloxl not you soz

^^ I saw many cracked frames and seatposts working at evans from people doing it there is a reason why they have the limit

  • yea same i still cant work out the quote function on forums and iv been using em for years ha ha!

hmmm ill lower it down a bit in that case... last thing i wanna do is knacker the frame

Yup, and the thread got moved, and a forum got created.

    Take a look around.

  • 78.2mm or thereabouts for the Ward Titanium spindles just in case anyone is looking at them:

Standard stainless steel axles are 78.96, and Speedplay Ti axles are 76.02, so the Ward ones will leave your cleats much closer to where you are used, if you are upgrading from a steel axle model.

Brakeless fixed & no foot retention is generally not considered rideable in any safety, and those cranks aren't suitable for brakeless riding either. Good luck though.

  • nor are those pedals

  • Cool story bro etc.

  • I hope it's flat as a pancake where he lives...

  • a longer chain would be advisable.

if you look in the last pic (although saying that you cant really see it) i have recified that issue

Just in case, if you want I have a load of 1/8 half links. Happy to pop a couple in the post as a xmas present. Just PM me your address.

  • I will be selling some cheap cranks soon too (deff can skid them)

  • Regal: Straps are on their way actually just waiting on them to turn up then ill fit my DMR V8's with them.. and the cranks, what, do they break? tbh, i've skidded a few times but its not a regualr thing.

Hugo7: ah cheers mate not to worry though, i have a full chain of half links on my bmx so im all good in that aspect.

ill take a photo tonight to show where its sitting in the dropout, perhaps someone will lemme know its ok where it is? but its defo around the middle section though.

C.B. cheers for the offer but for the while these are working ill keep em.

  • do they break?

    The chainring falls off.

Looks like fun... I don't have any full projects lined up at the moment but I've enjoyed stalking the progress of several others and having a tread devoted to each bike means I can keep track.

Just an observation though - the current projects forum doesn't yet show up in the forums tab at the top (which is mainly how I navigate about). I'm sure it's in hand though :)

  • I need to start thinking about my touring bike project for September, when my whole family is setting off to cycle to Istanbul. It's a 2/3,000 mile ride and I won't be able to travel light because I'll be carrying more than my share of the equipment.

The last tour I did was two years ago, to Slovenia with my friend Tom (pictured below).

I rode on a Raleigh Touriste (RHS of the image), with relatively cobbled together parts. IT was a really nice bike and I enjoyed riding it, although nearly everything self-destructed towards the end and any remaining working parts have since been poached for other builds. It was also ever so slightly too big for me, but only around a centimetre or so and there's room to put a shorted stem on (although twitchy and not so nice for touring).

I want to use this opportunity to set up a touring bike for life and have three options:

1 - Use the Raleigh frame, update all the parts to a new touring groupset with a triple and decent wheels

2 - Track down something slightly more elegant in my size. A Mercian would be my ideal but I would probably have to scrimp on some of the parts

3- Get something new and uber-functional like a Surly, possibly a full bike and then make modifications

  • Carbolift, strip, sand, carbolift, strip, sand, etc

    Have you seen this thread?

Sounds like razor's are the best option and Carbolift *may *be sketchy.

  • ^^ I'd say get a 'new' second hand bike and build up/replace parts.

Quite a few on ebay at the mo, from a scobbled thorn to slightly more elegant options.
