Kinda depends on wether the rider likes a lot of cushioning, or a lot of bar feel.
I have a few pairs, but the Castelli's fit and last the best for me. Might get some of these in the summer.

What about Gore mitts? They seem to get good reviews. I use Endura Gel somethings and find them pretty good but they might not be flashy enough for a present!

If they're a bit cheaper I can always get him a couple of other little things as well. Those both seem like pretty good options, thanks.

The Rapha Pro Team Mitts are my favourite:
http://www.rapha.cc/pro-team-mitts/
With the 20% off code GOBBLE11 they're £40.
Whatever you get, avoid Mavic ones. Not very well designed or well made.

Rapha slaves. Meh.
For that price you could get a top of the range Castelli pair, plus two pairs of Castelli merino socks.

Those Castelli ones are only so cheap because they're at a clearance discount and only available in XS. They look nice, sure, but pink highlights > red. ;)

Bugger.
There were a few others at the same price. To be fair the lack of stitching on the tops of the Raphas were quite appealing. I have some trendy knogs which I simply cant wear on the bike, because stiching around the thumbs. Use them for weight lifting now.
The whole LOVE - HATE thing is funny on a road bike. But makes makes me look a tit in the weights room.
Gloves are like shoes/saddle/etc. We all have our preferences. Mine is for thick soft squishy tape, and gloves with very little padding.

The one thing I will say about the Rapha mitts is that their weak point is the suede-like material between the wipe strip and the palm pad (where the pull loop is). I wore through that on both hands after about a year of daily use. Still bought another pair to replace them though, because I find them super comfortable.

I unpicked and remover the RIDE HARD on mine as they're really nice gloves and I'm not a super hard fixie amazeballs rad to the power sick skidder, just a cyclist.

Gore retro tech gloves are da bomb.
£29.99 comfy, hard-wearing and ace.

I think I'll go for the rapha ones, those are the ones he said he wanted and with that 20% discount code I can just about afford them. Thanks for the tip regal!

I'll look into that. I quite liked the gimmick as cycling gloves.
I feel less comfortable being 5'7" and walking around a weights room with *HATE' written across my right knuckles.

I'd be happiest with rapha if a gift.

Mine were just embroidered onto leather roundels which were then stitched to the glove so weren't a problem to remove with a bit of care.
If you've had your gloves a while you might find some bright shiny leather under there though which won't match the dirt/wear on the rest of the gloves.
My brother told me he wanted some fingerless cycling gloves for Christmas, can anyone reccomend a pair that are a decent quality and a decent price (no more than £40 really).
Probably not worth a thread but I thought others might be looking for similar advice for family and friends who are cyclists.
