  • yes indeed well at least the sale was withdrawn which means the person/people think again about reselling stolen goods .....

hi if you are out there :)

Say "hi" to this one, too. Looks like the same saddle, same auction wording ("posting only") allegedly different seller. Looks like "thinking again about reselling stolen goods" might mean only thinking it would be better to sell them under a different name. Two feedback so far, of five Brooks sold; and currently five more for sale.

Or perhaps it was this one - sold for £32 plus postage on 10 Dec:

  • Dear Father Christmas,

I think I've been a fairly good girl this year, and some people haven't been good at all, so maybe you could bring me a new wheelset and the people who steal nice wheelsets don't deserve any presents this year?
I'd really really love some white Blackjack rims and double-butted spokes (all silver apart from one black one in each wheel) and Condor Uno hubs. I think someone in Stoke Newington will have some for sale secondhand soon so you could get a bargain. Plus I think my friend Kat would really love a new seatpost and saddle this year, and all friends are very upset and they should get lots of presents because they've all been good too.

    Thanks Father Christmas.

  • any pics?

  • Got my brooks stolen from the Barbican car park last week - right next to the security guards office. Me and my boyfriend had our bikes locked together with a cable through both saddles. They cut the cable and prized off the saddles, broke/lost the tops of the seat posts so we have had to get new posts and carradice racks as well.

Anyway decided to buy cheap old brooks on ebay. It wasn't until after I bought it I realised that the seller 'specialises' in second hand brooks. Really pissed off that I might have inadvertently helped the trade in stolen saddles.

Just a couple of weeks ago I bought a brooks for my other older bike on ebay that was very definitely from some old boy cleaning out his shed, so I just presumed this was a similar seller.

Any idea what I should do?

  • You could always report the seller to ebay, ask anyone on here if they've lost whatever type it is and then get everyone to describe distinguishing marks in the hope of identifying and returning it or, just do nothing and be much more vigilant/careful about who you buy from.

  • If someone here does claim it, you could also consider this: take photographs before you return it to them; make sure to keep the copy of their description of it and ask them if they'd be prepared to give a witness statement to the police, and maybe evidence in court, that the saddle is their property (great if they've got their own proof - receipts, photographs and so on - from before it was stolen). Then use the return address they should have supplied with the saddle to report the seller to the police (as well as to eBay). If they didn't supply one, you can find it through eBay itself. eBay should advise on how to do that.

  • Sorry that should have read "use the return address with which the eBay seller should have supplied you when sending the saddle...." etc.

  • Still waiting for saddle to arrive, but I doubt he is going to have given me his address. It has been sent recorded delivery from post office close to where I live - not from the part of the country he claims to be based on ebay. Obviously he has my address so I'm slightly nervous, about doing anything that will piss him off.
I should have checked before I bought but this was the only saddle he was selling when I bought it, most of his past listings are private, only by comments and some listings he forgot to make private you can see he deals in an awful lot of second hand Brooks saddles.

Will definitely be more careful on bidding on anything like this again.
