Android phones, apps and tablets

  • I'm hoping that they'll fail to sell at their initial price, just like all the other Android tablets, and there will be a big sale after Christmas.

We have one here at work but the android devs are busy working on it and I can't get my grubby paws on it yet!

  • I haven't had a play with the Sensation but I'm loving the SGS2.

Me too. It's light, I like the form factor, the screen is a nice size, and it does everything I need from a phone.

  • Anyone tried one of these?

4 of the guys from work have got these for their families.

I'm considering one for the missus.

She uses her HTC desire at the mo, but says the screen's too small, and is always nicking my mac to browse the web with!
This looks like a much better option to me.

Just wondered if it'd be rootable?
I've rooted the desire and stuck custom roms on hers and mine.
    That's the only question really.

  • I've got an old HTC G1 (the original) how much would one of these sell for?

  • I got 50 from the Orange phone recycle thing when I upgraded.

Have a look through eBay's completed listings, as it's pretty much the same as an Official developer device it's still a useful piece of kit, even with a tired battery.

  • Brilliant! I'll be happy if I get 45 for it. Any takers?

  • OK, so I have the Galaxy Nexus. A really nice phone and the Android 4.0.1 is surprisingly good.
I was expecting the screen to be stunning, but it's bit dull and not as sharp as iPhone 4's.
Pity there's no memory card slot which would be useful for Spotify - without it there's no point to pay for the Premium version.
Build in camera has good resolution, but beside the pixel count is fucking shit.
I've already managed to download all the apps I had on the iPhone. The only pity is that I paid for some via iTunes, but I still use them on two iPads (wive's and mine), so it was worth it.

All and all I like the phone and the Android made a huge leap forward since I tried the last time round.

  • How does it compare to an iPhone?

  • ^^Have you tried turning the screen brightness up? The auto brightness on the nexus is a bit over aggressive, and it doesn't really look its best unless you turn it up. That being said, I haven't had a chance to compare mine with an iPhone

  • Transfomer Prime is out. Have pre-ordered one from eBuyer. ETA 12th Jan I think.

  • Are there two size versions for the Galaxy Nexus? My SGS1 only has its 8GB internal and a 2GB card and I've still got 4.5GB left across the card and the two partitions.

    Just for pre-order: http://www.ebuyer.com/asus?hpb=3

I thought for a second that it was available right now. Which would mean the office would get one and I'd see it before I left.

  • The distinct read through I have got from Asus is that they are on a ship somewhere, which is not docking in Britain until early Jan. They've never actually said this, but...

They have 'antenna diversity', and the reviewer units had wi-fi issues because only one of the aerials was attached. Apparently this is fixed in the retail units.

Of course the pre-order is just to keep my interest and attempt to lock me into not ordering something else, but if I change my mind I can easily cancel. Don't think I will though ;)

  • Right- Galaxy Note, I (highly scientifically) popped into the usual suspects (Voda/Orange/three) on my way back from a meeting, and none of them had one.

I had a look at a dummy at the Bond street tube Orange shop- but where can I try a real live one?

  • ^ You could have asked murts last night if you had stayed longer than 2 minutes.

  • 450 mb, and better be worth it!

He has the Note? The 5" one?

  • Grand Theft Auto III

450 mb, and better be worth it!

Really good, but crashy. Forgot how good the music is too. When it's running it's flawless on my gs2

  • anyone tried it on the sensation?

  • How does it compare to an iPhone?

It feels much better in your hand. It's more luxurious as well. The new Android has all the nice features iPhone 4s has, but not 4, so I'm happy with voice command, face recognition and such.

LFGSS look shite in native browser and Opera whilst being perfectly fine on iPhone/iPad (both Safari, Atomic and Lunascape as well). The whole forum is slightly scrambled.

Photos lack sharpness and saturation. Also when looking at photos and videos there's an apparent lack of sharpness when compared to iPhone. I had problem playing videos attached to posts in G+ - very strange.

Where's Instapaper? Where's BBC iPlayer and 4OD?! I miss them.

    Some apps crash.

You're absolutelly right. At first it was very dull. Almost an anti-climax. It's much better now, but now for viewing photos etc. which lack sharpness somehow.

  • I player is on there mate. Not sure why'd you watch it on a phone though.

  • I use it for catch up on radio programs
