    Norwich 100 - 2010

Anyone doing it next year? It's a great ride; starts and stops in the cathedral grounds, nice quiet country route that skims the coast. I've just signed up.

  • I am doing some ride in that area next year, but I've forgotten which one. It could be a Norwich-centred 400.

  • Have you planned a series of audaxes, Oliver?

  • Not yet, no. Hoping to, though!

  • I bought the NCN guide to East Anglia and planned a follow-the-coast route from Great Yarmouth to Kings Lynn which unfortunately I never got around to doing. The Norwich 100 looks great and now I'm hoping to do it (and I wonder if anyone would be keen for my GY to KL ride...)

  • I've done all that coast and more, some of it's lovely. We did big sections of it off-road on the cliff-top paths, but had to come back on roads when it turned to shingle.

  • Great Yarmouth to Kings Lynn is a lovely route around the coast. I take it you mean that rather than cutting through Norfolk?

  • Will sign up for the 100 miler after Christmas...

  • Yay, definitely up for this this time:

  • It's a week earlier than usual so hopefully we miss the usual icy rain and coastal headwind, maybe even no mechanicals this time.

  • If I'm up to fitness again I'll be in without a doubt.

Need to get on the turbo trainer this weekend, roads look icy!

How many hours/time are we generally thinking?

  • I believe we were looking at around 5h30, should be fine with a group and absences of punctures / skipping chains.

  • If I'm up to fitness again

Fat, middle-aged office workers do this on mountain bikes with flat tires for charity. I'm sure you can haul your skinny arse around no problem.

  • I'm aiming for a time of 3hrs 30mins this year. Aiming. Will be achieving a time nearer 5hrs 30mins.

  • How steep are the hills near the coast? I'm doing this SS so if we are talking Gas Hill steep then I may have trouble. Could use it as an excuse for a geared n+1 I guess.

  • Just rolling hills not that many of them to be honest. You'd be fine, just don't knacker yourself early on, I've booked up near that coast and the hills were setting my legs on fire.

  • It gets better after the coastal section. Tbh, if you get down to the broads, you'll be fine

  • Nothing as steep as Gas Hill but they're bigger than most round these parts. Just get some 50+ mile rides under your belt, preferably North Norfolk as it has some slopes. There'll be plenty of carbon crawling up the hills on the day.

I can testify to seeing this, mainly as I span past on my £300 Claude butler. Hilarious. There is a strange joy to overtaking a £2000 bike, on one that cost £300.

  • Interested! Do I enter thru AUK?

Always brings a smile to my face.

Although I now own a van nicholas, does that make me slow over night?

Also anyone keen for a ride out tomorrow? Weather doesn't look too bad, bloody cold, could do with a few miles in the legs if anyone fancies it? So long as you wrap up fine and take some food it'll be a good day out.

I can always bring my car to the city and we can start from there? The garmin will be in full swing so no worries about getting lost.

Alternatively I could fit a couple of bikes in my car and we could head to the coast for some hill sprints?

    Or I may be riding this;

  • Cheers all. Might start doing Mousehold on the way home each day.

  • Dammit, I miss norfolk
