The rear wheel can be used with screw on freewheel with 5,6,or 7 cogs the wheel dish and spacing won't allow an 8 speed freewheel with out the tyre rubbing on the chainstays of a race bike, might get away with it on a tourer.
You could use it on the track if you used one of these fixed adaptor / spacer devices but there is no effective lock ring in that case.
They are nice wheels, we have a few and they sound great on slightly bumpy tarmac !
