also, they're ^ right, another brake would be a good idea. And if it's aesthetics you're thinking about, single speed bikes look better with 2 brakes anyway imo.

Not sure actually haha. Just because I've never done this kind of setup before.
I run a Alfine hub on one of my mountainbikes but this however is a bolted one, as well as the wheel installation on my downhill bike. This gives me a bit more trust than a regular skewer I guess.
If you do have slight slippage, don't give up on the idea (I'm using QR skewer on vertical dropouts too), try a different QR, as some have better cam actions than others. I'm currently using a pretty cheap set from Superstar thats reasonably light and works ok so far.

I'm not sure how they managed it for the last 50 years with the skewer, but I think it might be fine on a singlespeed... might.

Found out I need new rims as it's not 100% straight...

I have to be frank with you Ed, when the locals are warning me that it was -15 and under 2 feet of snow in the same week last year I wasn't all that up for joining you on a camping trip.

Exactly why it's a B&B, my Dad, who know Cumbria by heart warn me the same and tell me to just stick to B&B.

what are you going to do if the Yorkshire roads are covered in black ice as they were this morning? Had a comdey moment overtaking a line of cars up a hill when wheels still turning gravity pulled me backwards down said hill, cue bike flipping sideways from under me and me sliding down the ice on my side....
good job I'm so good at falling over.

I stand to be corrected but my local sources that Hardknot is not rideable in late December. In fact, not many minor roads are. I am hopefully wrong as I will be going with Ed if so.

The last thing I want to have is a romantic long weekend with Ed in a B&B. No offence Ed...

My dad did warn me that I might have to push the bicycle at some stage.
Least I'm going with old clip and strap.
