good work baz, i think is also good to get their viewpoint about you, ask her openly and directly if you feel that you are being overlooked when others are being promoted etc. and ask about the situation of the firm and where it is going.. in these times nothing is certain, in good times tiswas suggestion could be more beneficial.. but remember also that it is preferred to have good rep wherever you work, don't give them an excuse for refusing a reference in the future or putting you in the departure lounge.
