Has anyone ever done this successfully? I've always imagined that as soon as you pull this out of the bag, you're effectively putting yourself at the front of the line of future redundencies / pass overs and at the back of future payrise / bonuses (it could even be couched in HR terms like 'demonstrable lack of commitment"). I'd imagine any income increase you get as a result of it would simply be the one you would have got in six months time (when you'll get nothing, but at least your employer would have made you turn down the alternative offer...)
