• Good polo today, albeit 2 v 2.

I thought some more about mine and Matt's discussion, and developed my opinion a bit more:

As much as I don't like it, and think it's an unsuccesful tactic, the double-goalie/wait it out approach is totally valid in 3 v 3. The onus is on the attacking team to bide their time and hold possession and send someone in to break up the wall through legal shoulder barges and mallet hooks.

I also think the static goalie in competitive 2 v 2 (like our tournament earlier this year) is fine, as the point is to win games, above all else, and who cares if danwentskiing thinks it's ugly...

What I don't think is worthwhile is doing it on days like today. The genesis of 2 v 2 at Highgate (with little goals and the no shooting outside the box rule) was to re-create as well as possible 3 v 3 polo when we don't have enough numbers. The small goals are there so that long shots are not really worth trying, and the outside the red box rule is so it's not a foregone conclusion that you'll score if you get a one on one situation. I actually think it works really well, and is good training for 'real' polo, because it focuses your mind on not leaving gaps which create 1 on 1s in the first place.

Does anyone else care, or is it just me?
