Wanted: 1970s Campagnolo Brakes

Posted on
  • I'm looking for some 70s Campy break calipers. Anyone?

  • Early 70s, mid 70s or late 70s?

  • I have a Mercian frame that was built in 1970, so Ideally as close to that year as possible. But to be honest, I don't mind as long as it's from that era and they're in good condition.

  • is it an Olympic?

  • is it an Olympic?

Hey. Just found this on the web which seems to explain the difference in numbers:

"Mercian frame numbers include the year of manufacture, but where the year appears in the sequence has varied over time. From the 1970s through 1999, the year is the last two digits of the frame number. After 1999, the last four digits are the year of manufacture. For at least part of the 1950s, the first two digits indicate the year, but this pattern was not followed consistently."

    Speak to Hilary Stone...

I've checked his website and I was hoping for something a little cheaper.

  • interesting^

i'd like to see how/if you've built yours if you've got pics. I'm just embarking on it myself.

Wow, your Olympic is super nice! Colour me jealous. I actually bought mine off Lightbluejosh on the forum about this time last year and have slooooowwwwlllly been building it up when I have the spare time and cash. I'm at work now so don't have a pikkie on me, but here is a link to his build and a list of the parts I've bought below:

    lightbluejosh build:

My single speed build so far:
    Cinelli Giro D'Italia 65-42's Bars
    Cinelli 1A 115mm stem
    Brooks Team Pro Classic saddle
    Campagnolo Aero seatpost
    Campagnolo 170 Strada GS Cranks
    MKS Sylvan road pedals
Tange Falcon headset (was already on the frame)
    System Ex track hubs

Probably gonna get some Halo retro rims and get the wheels built up by a friend to finish it off, then continue to tweak it as and when the right parts turn up.
