I'd buy the kindle over a tablet any day chap.
For one the kindle is so much easier to read. There's only so long you can look at a LCD screen (on tablets)
Also the battery life on kindles is phenomenal around a month, which is every piece of technologies dream.
Also you've got the fact if you go on holiday it weighs next to nothing and you won't really mind having it out around the pool/ on the beach.
