2 things;
1 - It's a bit rich Will bemoaning what I assume was your lack of an apostrophe in the oldest neg rep, when in the most recent he could do with one in his first word. I mean, what a hypocrite.
B - No subscribed threads? How on earth do you manage your commitment to the cause?

I hadn't noticed that. I approve.
I unsubscribed from a host of them to leave: Coffee Appreciation, Food and What Is The Most Authentic Place To Ride?

I think that would be a good thing. I don't really see the point of neg rep except perhaps for traders. If you dislike something that someone posts, why not have it out in the open? It's a forum, after all. I don't know, though, if disallowing the neg rep release would breed more simmering resentment (if people then didn't put things out in the open) or less.
If you really want to take something up with someone else in private, there are always PMs.
I like positive rep because it's a quick way of letting someone know that you like their post, which would clog up the threads if you always posted about it. Obviously, technically positive rep would still permit people to write nasty comments, but that would seem to be a lesser problem.

But to take away the nerg would take the fun out of the faux-nerg....

But does the value from a trading perspective not outweigh any room for silliness?

Because sometimes you want to keep it between you and the person whose comment you disliked and a PM might seem too ponderous. If you get a PM in response to your neg rep then you can write a reasoned, longer reply - even if that is then ignored by the person who was so upset by your neg rep that they PMd you. Not that that has recently happened to me, of course.

Oh stop worrying about your precious trading rep. Everyone knows you are one of the rocks upon which this forum is built. Or grounded, whatever.
