185 for the frameset? Did I overpay on ebay? It was a bidding war. 185 seems like a fair deal on an excessively clean Newer Evans 531 Touring Frame. What do you think is a good price?

£525 for an unfinished singlespeed conversion. chevrons
-

It will be finished if someone buys it. I don't want to finish it out if I end up just selling the frame.
It's not a conversion in the traditional sense of the word either. It's prepped from the ground up for single speed riding. Nitto, Sugino, Mavic.

"Ultimate Single Speed". What, built around a touring frame that's not finished ? £525 ???
Polite advice: Split it if you want to get close to your money back, sell the bits at least 20% less than you paid. With the possible exception of the frame, you might have better luck back on ebay as clearly the person you bought it from did.
Re-write the ad so a: You can drop all the sales speak hyperbole. b: (You can lose all the bracketed sentences. Seriously, why ?) and c: You can count EXACTLY how many teeth the chain ring has.
"Here's the shoes you chose, I believe thay are size 10". Doesn't really work that does it ?
The bottom line always seems to be that to charge top whack for a custom built bike, to YOUR design, you're going to have to find a buyer who wanted their custom build EXACTLY the same.
You will wait a very very long time for this. -

Feel very out of touch having to ask, but what does the chevrons thing mean?
Seriously though, the price is nuts; I sold a nicer, later Evans with a Columbus SLX frame and a full Chorus group for £395 earlier in the year.
AND Seth81, you dibsed a bike I'm selling, then didn't get in touch or reply to my PMs which isn't very nice.

I would be interested to see close up photographs of the rear dropouts and to know what the spacing is at the back. Also like to see pictures of any tubing stickers.

Yeah, that went over my head too.

Hey Seth,
As others have said your total price is way out and you've come across as not really being an expert in the stuff your selling - e.g. that don't look like a Nitto Pearl stem to me... they don't come in a long stem version... looks more like a Nitto Technomic Deluxe which is half the price!! (EDIT: just thought ... you maybe didn't push the Pearl stem down as you didnt want to scratch it!). Also, while MA2s are nice, the wheelset is not particularly impressive (which would be the only thing to justify such a high price). Combine all that with the sales talk and it's no wonder you're catching some flak...
BUT, as someone who loves a good touring bike... I wanna come to your defence and say that the frame/fork (and headset) price of £185 is about it's full value but not UNreasonable. As long as this is in MINT condition as you say... then this frame is a classic touring gem in the making. The geometry is classy too for a tourer. But the problem is that you've tried to sell it on LFGSS as a "dream" SS bike! That won't wash. But there are tonnes of tourers/randonneurs who actually would see this as a dream bike.
More relevant information for that market would be the fact that it takes cantis - which is very desirable. That it has every possible braze on required for a great touring rig - including pump pegs, a second set of eyes on the front fork dropouts and a third set of water botter bosses on the bottom (this is very rare and desirable). Another selling point would be if it takes true 35mm tires with mudguards (which it looks like it may)? And also you should clarify if it is Reynolds 531 or 531st?
This frame could be a real gem in the right hands... even if you are asking all its worth.

Good luck.
(PS... you will never get back what you put into bike builds when you buy NOS or new parts.)

^ This is sensible advice.
I think you'd be better off splitting and putting the frame on Ebay. Take some much better photographs and spend some time on a listing that captures all the facts (size, tubing, eyes, bosses, braze-ons, decals, serial number, date of manufacture, etc.) and hopefully you'll be able to get back what you paid, especially if you're prepared to post it.
The other bits and pieces you can probably sell on here, though as eamonog says, you'll struggle to get back what you paid new.
Good luck.

Thank you for the advice .. I could've done without the sarcasm or rude comments though (maybe they made some of you feel better). For example, "Ultimate Single Speed", if you care to read the next line it says AT LEAST TO MY MIND .. implying that it is to me, with no implication that it is to anyone else.
I figured if someone was interested in the frame (which is what I'm really trying to sell), that they would just ask questions about it. It is for canti's, and it's got braze-ons for everything. It's more than I need, which is why I'm selling it.
The price was just added up from what I spent, and then I subtracted a bit. I don't mind splitting at all, but I just thought someone might enjoy it with the chosen parts.
Cheers
(fyi .. All parts were bought in the US so I'm not sure if Nitto sources different things to the US or not) (i.e. when i bought the pearl they had a sq (short quill) and lq (long quill) version)

My apologies it is the Nitto Deluxe (the long quill version of the pearl), not pearl.

I have built an "Ultimate Single Speed" at least to my mind and I just can't really afford it at this point (or the thought of it being stolen). So I'm selling it as a whole or just the frameset. Most of the parts (with the exception of the wheels are Brand New/Never Ridden)
Specs:
FRAME: 80's Evans Touring Frameset 56cm ctc seat tube 57cm ctc top tube - It's PO5 (I think) from the 80's. (I bought this on ebay about 2 months ago for bidding auction up to 185, so I'm going to offer it at that) .. Very clean frame (the cleanest vintage I've ever seen), I haven't noticed any marks. Seems to have been ridden, but kept indoors, and ridden slightly.
WHEELS: Mavic MA2 36h laced to Shimano Exage hubs (straight and tight, still shiny). Thought this would be a nice period(ish) matching wheelset to the frame.
TIRES: New Panaracer Pasela Tourguard 700X32c (New with Kevlar Bead) (My favorite tires for single speed, particularly in the city .. gives you absorption without losing too much speed, perfect size I find).
CRANKSET: New Sugino RD - My favorite crankset/chainset combo for single speed. These are new and shiny. 47t I believe.
PEDALS: MKS Touring Pedals
BRAKES: New Tektro CR 720 Cantilever Brakes (Polished Silver)
SEATPOST: New Nitto Humble Seatpost (http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/sp4.htm)
SADDLE: Not Pictured Brooks B-17 Black
HANDLEBARS: Nitto Albatross Touring Bars - http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/hb2.htm
BRAKE LEVERS: Tektro Inverse Brake Levers
TAPE: New Black Brooks Tape
STEM: New Nitto Pearl 60mm
FRAMESET = 185
COMPLETE BIKE = 525
The pictures are very lukewarm .. All I had was my iPhone and the kitchen this morning and a few parts of the bike are complete yet (which I don't want to do if someone doesn't want the entire bike). It gives you an idea though. Sorry about that.
