Germany is colder than the UK - no gulf stream, innit. The snow is bad, but the freezing rain is awful. You might get lucky, though.

Here are the trains

Yeah. Obviously can't get a forecast that far in the future so I'm quite happy to get the train if I really need to. So info about stations on the way would also be useful...
EDIT: Cheers ^^

Car sharing, if you've got a folding bike it should be fine. By far the cheapest way of getting around Germany. Post anything you need translating and I or someone else will help you!

I cycled until mid-December when I lived in Berlin. After that, it snowed and didn't thaw again for 2 months, and cycling got very very dangerous. The freezing winds are horrible

Thanks guys. Am booking tickets today. Going to go with Plan A - cycle it if the weather is OK or Plan B - get the train. Plan C is to car share.

Good luck, goodhead. If the weather turns out to be too bad, you can always bail out.

Did this route in August, it's a great ride. Flat and easy to navigate, but yeah the weather is going to be tough. Good Luck!
I'm considering cycling from Hamburg to Berlin in early December on a Brompton.
Could any Germans tell me:
a) Whether this is completely stupid - i.e. is it likely to be snowy/rainy/ridiculously cold. I'm guessing the climate will be similar to the UK at that time of year so I guess hit or miss.
b) If the weather goes in my favour and I don't just take option b and get the train, where on the route would be good places to stop - especially overnight? Link below is my planned route so far and I have 5 days to get there if necessary.
