UTFS should have been your first action before creating this thread.
FTFY
The forum would then even prompt you to check the other relevant threads, which would probably have done as little to assuage your buyer's remorse as this one.

Ahh . . welcome to LFGSS . . no better group of people to piss on your parade, espousing vitriol agaisnt your new pride and joy that only moments ago you thought was the most marvelous pedaling machine on the planet, but is now nothing more than a source of embarrassment ,only matched in shame by your use of the word fixie.
On a serious note the Langster Steel aint a half bad place to start for a first fixed gear, so its not all doom and gloom
totally agree with this.
i'm sure you will love your Langster Steel, it's a very good bike and personally (not that this counts for anything) i like the look of it too. it isn't a bad thing if some people here violently disrespect your bike; at least some people hate on every single bike posted here, including ones that other people love. it's not because people here are dicks, they're just obsessed with bikes (a good thing!), so likely to have strong opinions on them.
besides, speaking as somebody who loves his ugly hybrid, there can be an enormous amount of perverse pleasure to be had from having and loving a bike that other bike-nerds disrespect.

Don't worry, I'm not sensitive, and I don't give a FF if people don't like the bike - I was just interested in people's views and suggestions for improvements. I've had 2 fixies in the past year (shouldn't I use that word :)) am old Raleigh conversion and then briefly an On One Pomp.
[Sits back awaiting the next smart reply :)]

Get rid of all the shiny shiny chrome bits before you go any further!

vynalvillain.
A couple of days ago you said that a steel Langster is not a bad bike to start on.
I would like to add that it is not a bad bike to finish on either.
After 65 years of riding fixed, I now have 15 bikes in my garrage. 11 of them are fixed.
Six are Langsters, (4 alloy and 2 steel)
I also have a Steamroller, a Genesis Flyer, a Condor track bike, an old Dawes and an old Claud Butler.
By law of averages, if I ride all the bikes equally, which I try to do, then I ride the Langsters more than the others.
I only wish that 50 and 60 years ago, when I was riding seriously, that there had been bikes like the Langster around then.
Although there were some good bikes around then, the average bloke like myself couldn't afford them. I know that I could never think about buying a "new" bike, I had to make do with second hand and the people that had the good bikes, hung onto them. -

Malaysian.
They are all different finishes.
Red steel, Chrome steel.
Black, Silver, Yellow and Green alloy.
I had the money, I saw them, I liked them, I bought them.
Call it an old man's whim if you like, I enjoy riding them all.Neil

Ah I haven't yet reached the different colour justifications.... I'm currently in phase 2 of bike purchase justification - material, having already fulfilled stage 1 - a bike for every purpose...
saying that, I'm but a whippersnapper so plenty of time in the future to move onto colour variations... (:

^ This.
I don't really understand what the issue is with them.
If it were me, knowing what I know (and prefer) now, I'd buy the alu because of the carbon forks/ahead, and rack mounts.
But from looking at the specs, you've got a Reynolds 520 frame, sugino cranks, and a solid looking wheelset. So there's nothing topend, but for the money it looks solid and good quality. Plus it has a nice retro look to it.
I especially don't see why the plugs (RRP ~£550!) get so much love compared to langsters.
Just my 2p.

Question: are langsters allowed on Herne Hill?
-
• #922
^ Yep, as long as they have the right gearing, drop handlebars, no brakes and foot retention.
-
• #923
'course, was just wondering about bb height being low.
-
• #924
There are a few guys that ride the Langster steel at the track, but never seen anyone on an alu one. I'm sure they'd be fine, though. ^^ Sorry about stating the obvious!

Secondly, people have use geared bicycles on Herne Hill, it's not a problem as long you abide by the rule.
I flipped a biscuit once... it crumbled to pieces.... never again.
