it could be aluminium oxide (think rust). those pots are bare aluminium so will oxidise.
My guess would be that it's fine so long as you clean it well and frequently.
Though that could be bad advise.
Re: the porlex mini - i said a few posts back that i was trying 3 click from tight. I have moved to 2 clicks and there is a noticeable difference in resistance on the aeropress. i would imagine that 1 click would be possible but would leave you open to a messy kitchen if you slipped while applying that much pressure.
