  • i may be talking out of turn but its the saddle in relation to sit bones, no? also position on bike and the right minue adjustments for the length of your thigh / and below knee?
    I could be wrong..

Finding the right saddle seems like all manner of dark arts tbh. This thing about sit bones though, the wider your sit bones (arse) the wider the saddle should be, right?

  • Yes.

Evans will have a specialized arse measuring tool. Note the size of his arse and the look for sadles that corespond.

  • Note the size of his arse.

This will probably take a little planning and forethought.

  • I have the womens version of this http://www.specializedconceptstore.co.uk/Detail/equipsaddlesmtb/mountain/BG%20Indie%20XC%20Sport%20Saddle and it suits hybrid position, comes in 2 widths. it's no so much the size of the arse as how wide the sit bones are, not necessarily the same thing. just sit on something that'll hold an impression and measure between the dents...

    Sorry this is wrong.

Specialized saddles come in different widths; on their MTB team a few years back the guy who was build like a wippet and had no kind of arse or hips had the widest seat bones and therefore used the widest saddle.

For hybrid bikes and that sort of ride position I found their Sonoma saddle prove to be very popular.

  • Selle San Marco Rolls. Awesome.

    Yes.

Charge spoon. Cheap and very comfortable.

    No.

Nice post Tiles. The Zoo looks like it might fit the bill. Bargain.

I reckon a Rolls also fits the bill, got one on a bash bike with a situp position, decent touring saddle with good looks, and good for my furious piles Ithangyouverymuch.

Yes. Rolls is a great all round saddle. Used on my fixeh skiddah on such famous rides as the Ladies & Edscoble ride London to Brighton and as featured in my music video "Bitching on the Ditchling"

I even have a spare rolls which I use on my other bikes... Although I also got a 2nd hand max flite gel flow on my cx/road bike as Rolls just didn't look right... Also very comfortable and supportive without being overly bulky.

Rolls are buyable around the £20-25 mark in good/great condition on here. If you go for one, make sure you don't get the Rolls Due by accident (this is narrower)

Also, if you get a Rolls and after giving it a few weeks it's not right it will be easy to move it on again here without loosing money. The zoonomo does look quite tempting, but also looks like it could be a little soft (although not having handled it I can't really say.) soft does not equal comfortable on any kind of distance.

I think when people say arse, they mean sit bones TBH.

I'm a chunky little fecker, but have medium spaced sit bones, and ride in quite an aggresive position. So I like a narrow saddle. I have a storika on the fixed, which looks like I'm trying to combine an interest in S&M with my riding. You'd never fit it to me by looks. I loves it though.

I think you need to consider the following:

Sit bone width (specialized have a scale for this)
Flexibility, or riding position (Fizik have a scale for this)
Weight (Selle San Marco have a scale for this)

...and even then it would still be trial and error.

  • The problem lies with people not using the correct terms.

What you need to measure is the seperation of the tuberosity of the ischium.

    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuberosity_of_the_ischium[/ame]

  • And then buy an Arione

  • ^and then get numb balls.

  • You're doing it wrong

  • My balls make the saddle go numb.

  • What's this got to do with the Beastie Boys?

  • It's all sad-ill communication....

  • True^ thats exactly where the problem is seated.

  • Sorry this is wrong.

    ^ this.

Have you used the specialized arse measuring tool?

It helps you locate you sit bones and measure the distance, so you can take that figure and apply it to your purchase of a specialized saddle.

You can also use this figure to help identify which other saddles may be appropriate.

I didn't mean it was just a massive set of callipers to assess the size of your junk a la

    Also good advice.

I still think a £30 second hand B17 is a worthwhile investment. If he doesn't like it he can resell at cost.

  • Selle Italia MAN.

My flatmate absolutely swears by this. Pricey but indeed, very nice to sitbone on.

joke about Shake Your Rump, Professor Booty, Slow Ride

  • And Bhodisattva Vow.

    Umm is that right?

    Bhumisattva Vow

  • Oooh you missed a Ti rolls for only £40, last night on this here forum. Bad luck.

  • Brooks B17. I ride it without any padding nowadays. Paid £35 for a second hand which still looks new.
