  • ^^^^ as ever, the rider down thread is not the place for slagging off TfL, or anyone else. I have posted my thoughts about casualty rates on the Cycle Safety Working Group thread:
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread31959.html

  • Absolutely unbelievable and it makes my heart stop when I hear about it. Tragic, RIP.

It's fucking unbelievable. Can we please organise some sort of protest on this? We must be one of the tightest cycle groups in London and I can't bear another thread like this. Multigrooves is right, this needs to be brought to the doorsteps of those in charge.

  • Brian's wife speak the truth.

Doesn't she just. As I said on the thread relating to Brian's death I commuted over the Bow flyover for best part of a year. I always went over the top, not overly safe, but in my opinion by far the safer option. But I was talking to my g/f about this yesterday and I genuinely think that if I still lived in London and commuted on that route I would use the superhighway on that junction because I'd perceive it to be safer.

RIP unknown lady cyclist. So, very, very sad.

    ^ This

....and LFGSS IS the tightest cycle group in London - FACT!

  • So how many more should die to make it no longer an acceptable loss? 4? 8? 100?

  • This may not be the right place for this but I was struck recently by the fact that the RAF have ceased flying their Red Arrows after two pilots were killed in unrelated accidents pending enquiries into the deaths so that steps can be taken to ensure that the risk of future deaths is minimised.

TfL are still allowing lorries around dangerous junctions after two deaths have been caused by them in a month. Are cyclists' lives less important or valuable than display pilots?

  • @Cliveo I've wondered that myself a lot. If it was a coffee machine exploding and killing people in Starbucks they would be made pull it immediately. It's gutting where we rank.

  • power of the motor lobby.

  • RIP lady cyclist and my deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Reading this makes my stomach turn and makes me so very angry, I'm fed up with TfL doing nothing about this issue. I agree with Superprecise, we should organise some sort of demonstration ride, this has to come to an end!

  • The Evening Standard described friday's victim as a "woman, known only as Lana"

    RIP

  • Saw this mentioned on another website, can't believe another cyclist has died in the same place. It's so awful, how many more before action is taken! Thoughts with all who knew Lana. RIP.

  • this is the fault of the olympics people / crossrail people and the mayor of newham.

i told them it was not right to close the greenway and they said it was ok because they had a diversion in place.

i said it was along a pavement.

they said it was ok because the mayor of newham had said it was ok.

i said the mayor of newham did not have powers to order or authorise cyclists to ride on the pavement.

    they ignored me.

the mayor of newham is not coming out of this very well at all.

  • having said that there have been people on this forum who have said that riding the bow flyover / junction is not a problem / is good fun.

  • Tower Hamlets and Newham LCC groups organise a candlelit vigil to commemorate the two cyclists killed in recent weeks on Barclays CSH 2:

Also, a few of us will meet at the Southwark Needle (London Bridge) at 17:00 on Friday to ride to Bow. Please join us if you can find the time.

  • I think I can find the time, will do that Alex.

  • The Met are calling for witnesses to this incident, if people have heard anybody talking about this maybe you could suggest they contact them? Sounds like they may be preparing a case of dangerous driving against the HGV driver.

More accurate to say that compared to using the roundabout it is the better option to use the flyover. The entry and exit are challenging on occasion, the surface is not great and the wind can be tricky as well.

  • went east tonight.

high level on the way out.

on the way back in people driving mpv's blocked my access to high level so i was forced low level.

    i saw both the shrines.

    very upsetting.

not to mention mpv's going at speeds that are dangerous.

  • Jesus. United Kingdom lagging behind the Ukraine in road traffic prosecutions where victims involved. Great to hear that a driver who is on the phone and fails to indicate can't be blamed for fatal consequences of his actions.

    RIP Svitlana.

  • That's so sad rip
