I was a regular there when it was the George Canning. Hated the change to the Hobgoblin; completely ruined the atmosphere and alienated half the regulars.

I think I first went there about sixteen years ago when I think it was called the Hobgoblin. I always find half-pub/half-nightclub places strange.

I remember sitting in the Canning on a Saturday in June, 1994, surrounded by delirious Irishmen watching Ireland beat Italy 1-0 in the World Cup. That was the same day that the Pride march ended in Brockwell Park, which made for a very interesting party mix on the Saturday evening. Thing is, the Canning had a pretty varied crowd any day of the week. Hobgoblin wasn't the same.
