  • Thanks for the recommendations - we went to the White Hart at Wytham and it was bloody excellent!

  • The Trout's not what it used to be. You're better off going a little further and to the White Hart at Wytham.

Really? That was a shit hole the last time I went, good to know.

  • This is coming out of the Waifs & Strays ride on Christmas Day, and another forum regular proposing a meetup for food / drinks somewhere around SE15 later in the day. If we can find someplace, we might go there after the spin is finished up around 12pm or so.

Can anyone recommend decent boozers open on the 25th?
Preferably with food that doesnt cost an arm & a leg, with some veg/'n options.

I'm looking for places south of the river. East end would be alright.

    So far, I've got:

The Cambria (off Coldharbour Lane, near Loughborough Junction station)
    Open 12 - 5. Dinner is £50.

The Windmill, Brixton. Open at 7pm. Music & drinks. No food.

Richard the First (a Youngs pub) in Greenwich.
    I think it was open 12 - 3 and then 7 - 10.
    Dinner is £40.

JD posted up about a place in Primrose Hill but its all meat, and a bit far.

Any other suggestions / info / tips welcome. Thanks!

It aint all meat. As i myself dont eat it! And it isn't far as the ride will pass right next to it unless you want to continue the ride until the very end which after last year was all well and nice but very very cold! even though i thought i had worn the correct amount of layers etc it still was chilly.
The bottle of jack passed around helped and the hip flask help for a while.
    Still a good morning!

  • It aint all meat.

Here's from their Christmas Day menu main courses which the manager emailed me directly when I asked him about it:

    MAINS
    HOST A ROAST

Just like having Christmas at home without the cooking or the washing up

    Choose from:
    Free‐range chicken (minimum of 2)
    Gressingham duck (minimum of 2)
    Scottish salmon (minimum of 2)
Crown of English Rose turkey with pork and chestnut stuffing (minimum of 4)
West Country sirloin of beef (minimum of 4)

No vegan or vegetarian main course option on Christmas Day.

  • I went to the Trinity Arms (Brixton) on Xmas day last year post Waifs and Strays. I'm not sure if they were doing food, but they were defnitely serving beer!
And its a lovely pub... they had santa hats and quality streets on all the tables and, well it was swell.
If they're doing food it definitely won't be that pricey, so give them a ring.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent pub in the Exmouth Market area? Avaialable seating and no music would be ideal.

  • the one opposite the holiday inn at the end of calthorpe st.
    the eagle
    the one on clerkenwell green
a short walk to the peasant on st john st

not good at remembering pub names

  • senile thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Bowler in Bowling Green Lane. I haven't been for a while, but when I went there was no music and it was a very nice pub. I can't say whether it might not have changed, though.

  • I got a reply from the Trinity Arms in Brixton. They are doing food (£35) and are open 12-3 on the 25th. You need to book in advance with a £10 deposit if you want food. I'm still not convinced by any menu I've seen so far though for decent vegan options, even the vegetarian main courses are a bit crap and non-Christmassy.

Trinity Arms might be good for a post Waifs and Strays pint alright, there's a few people based around Brixton.

  • Yeah, DO IT! I'm back in oz this year, but defs go if not just for the free chocolates and to re-warm your toes.

  • I think I'm veering towards making food at home. No place is really offering a menu I'm keen on, and paying 40 quid for a meal that usually costs around £12-15 isnt my cup of tea. Its not like we'll have a mountain of wash up to do or anything.

Trinity Arms post Waifs & Strays, then dinner at home, and then maybe the Windmill on Brixton Hill for some evening pints & music sounds like the plan.
Unless the Prince Albert on Coldharbour Lane is open. I like that place.

  • Prince Albert sounds like its open between 12 and 3 for beers. Thats a great pub.

Used to be great value, but possibly the prices have gone up after getting a *.

  • Ooooooh the Perch is nice but be prepared to spend a few quid!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anywhere not suity round liverpool street?

  • and dredge -

Looking for recommendations round kennington/vauxhall areas (or close by), nice but not pricey food?

  • The Dog House does alright food at semi decent prices around there. Pretty standard beer selection though.

  • the old red lion in kennington rd is 100% recommended. Great place, excellent food, wish I lived closer to it.

  • Decent pub in Shepherds Bush where a can sink a couple before John Cooper Clark at the Empire this eve...?

  • Decent is stretching it but the big Wetherspoons in the shopping centre opposite the station is cheap and convenient with a reasonable range of beer.

  • The Defector's Weld is alright but it'll be rammed.
