The problem is that compact drop tend to come in oversize clamp, luckily there are alternative that also come in 26mm so can be used with a quill stem, such as Bontrager, or the Soma HY1.
Deda have a lovely looking compact alu bar in 26mm, too.

:O bloody hell, they werent there last time i looked! mines really poor in comparison to them, got a couple of dents on it, and any original chrome is past it. shame really, but never mind, should still ride well when its done

couple of projects on the go, a nice rudge in '531' tubing, does anyone know when it might be from with this tubing sticker? not seen one like it before. campagnolo record front hub, gran sport rear track hub. got a chain on it now.
Second is a look kg196 monoblade. it has mostly dura ace 7400 (on mdcctesters advice) and ultegra hubs and brakes to cxp14 rims. so light, pretty pleased with it.
just needs an 8 speed rear cassette and chain and pedals and its done!
thanks to everyone from the forum who helped me out with parts and stuff

Like the Cinelli, must be a really nice ride.
I would go same colour stem and seatpost, the headset looks actually pretty cool (I would be tempted to go black or silver) and cut the steerer down a tad, so that only one spacer is a'top the stem.
But I actually think it is a real good looking build ^ and that is fairly uniform suggestion of all bikes, so maybe it looks better for it...
Thanks it does indeed ride super well. Black stem is on the shopping list as is a black Chris King. I will be chopping the steerer when i stop being so lazy.
custom stem would look awesome with the cinelli, like this;
I would love a custom stem but i just cant justify the monies on one at the moment maybe next summer?
NICE cinelli up there! Which carradice is that?
Thanks, unsure of the model. It used to belong to my grand father, he has a few on various bike's. From seeing the other models in the current Carradice range i would say its similar in size to the Nelson. Here is a slightly better picture;
