  • I don't doubt that they did but it would be interesting to know exactly which parts of his behaviour warrant such a fine..

  • I'm playing 6 tomorrow, what's the world coming to?

  • After the experiments of moving you backwards, you're moving forward again. Soon they'll throw you in at hooker..

6 can be quite a freeing position I think. Less worries securing ball from the scrum, less worries of pressuring the 10 in defence. Just make sure you get a quick break blind if their number 8 comes your way.

Absolutely Wibbs.. But I feel the RFU will want to draw a line under it...

That said I'm betting the tabloids are digging like crazy.. It's a harsh, harsh punishment and I feel the RFU didn't hand it out lightly.. Unless they are making an example of course..

I've been playing 7 for the second half our season. Depending on who I'm flanking with, playing some blind side too. I love flanking. Gives me ample opportunity to do what I love best. Being an absolute pain in the ass to the opposition.

We've been given the set-up for next season. The first half of which, will be competed in 10s rugby. This is good news for us, as we struggle with numbers. But I've never played 10s before, and wont be able to flank. So its back to hooker for me.

Although TBH, theres a dark place inside me. That secretly loves front row rugby.

i think the main reason is we have an experienced 8 in tomorrow. I played hooker for 10 min in the last game cos ours got binned after 3minutes for punching their 9, in front of the ref. we'll see how it goes.

    Our 3's v Becchamians 2's 12/11/11 @ 14:30

quite like the idea of 6, less pressure to get to the breakdown first but all the fun of fucking with their 9 and battering their 8 into touch if he tries to be cheeky

  • He was doin gear in the bogs with Frankie Cocozza

  • Ulster won too, going to Ulster v Munster at Ravenhill on 30th December

  • pack a rain jacket..

  • standard issue back home

  • I hear people are born wearing them in Ulster..

  • One day we'll beat an Irish side away from home :(

  • 2 hours of 5 v 5, touch rugby last night. We do this sort of training a lot, mainly due to a lack of numbers. I usually love it. As everyone is nackered in the last hour. So even an aging forward like myself can hit a few gaps.

But it was about -3C, which has destroyed my hamstrings. I can barely walk today.

  • Loving the fact that big name, highly experienced and successful coaches are coming forward to say they are not interested in the England job. First White now Mallett, I don't know what will be worse for the person who eventually lands that job; dealing with the monumental ego and all round arsehole that is Rob Andrew, or the level of scrutiny that they will get in the press.

  • I'm seriously thinking of putting a tenner on Shaun Edwards taking the job.

  • Bollocks.. Edwards signs 4 year deal with Wales.. Good job i did my research.

  • IMHO England & the RFU need to clear house back and front..

Get a fresh slate for the next four years if they're serious about challenging in a world cup.

Graham Henry was talking about wanting to go into a 'culture' or coach building role. Bring him in to replace Rob Andrew. Identify a top level coach to come in and be in charge, bring in two or three younger coaches who (with the right nurturing) could eventually take over. Settle on a style of play and pick players that fit.

Personally, I think the most successful clubs in rugby are the ones with money & continuity. The RFU has money, it just needs to build the 'culture' and identity that comes with stability. A bit like a mixture of Barcelona (they have a distinct identity and play a certain way based on a playing philosophy) mixed with Leicester, and more recently Saracens (Tigers have always developed from within, Sarries are starting to do the same with Andy Farrell/Paul Gustard/Sanderson in the coaching team & earmarked as future head coaches).

Also, as far as players are concerned, I really liked Lievremont's early forays with France. A lot of people didn't like it but he came in and early on, gave domestic performers (regardless of club) a chance to pull on the French jersey and show what they had. Perhaps he was a little extreme in that until the WC he'd never played exactly the same team twice in a row but with a bit more selectiveness it can work wonders and can make players a bit more focused on getting/keeping their shirt.

  • Its a tricky one, some of the press are touting Graham Henry for the job but after the amount of pressure and criticism that he got in New Zealand in the run up to the world cup I cannot imagine him wanting to go and manage England and effectively sign up for at least another four years living under the press spotlight. I reckon that Jim Mallinder or Brendan Venter may be goers, Mallinder, to my knowledge, is the only coach who has openly expressed an interest in the job and Venter has proved that he can turn a team around quickly. Although speaking from a Scottish point of view I think that Leivremont and Rob Andrew would make a fantastic management team for the England set up going forward ;)

  • Brendan Venter is very unlikely. He's moved back to SA and only works on a part-time consultancy basis at Sarries. Add to that the history of disciplinary actions taken by the RFU (arguable whether or not they were justified). I'm not sure whether he's the most popular with the suits at Twickers.

Mallinder has had previous roles in the England setup and has definitely done a good job at Saints. He's probably been asked to apply.

  • Settle on a style of play and pick players that fit.

As far back as can remember England have had a style of play. Its called static. Means you dont make much ground per phase. But if its low risk, and the forwards are well disaplined. It seems to work OK, especially if you have a solid kicker. Did win us a world cup after all. England currently look like a static slogger team with ambitions of expansive play. It just never looked like it would work.

Most football teams that enjoy continued success, do exactly as you describe. Allways making sure the team, and its style, is bigger than the player.

  • Apparently I need to post three times before getting out of 'the nursery'? Anyway, that's as good a reason as any for sharing this incase anyone hasn't seen it. Hands-down the best reaction by a coach to a refereeing performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_twJ0hmeDB4
