    As far back as can remember England have had a style of play. Its called static. Means you dont make much ground per phase. But if its low risk, and the forwards are well disaplined. It seems to work OK, especially if you have a solid kicker. Did win us a world cup after all. England currently look like a static slogger team with ambitions of expansive play. It just never looked like it would work.

    Most football teams that enjoy continued success, do exactly as you describe. Allways making sure the team, and its style, is bigger than the player.
