  • IMHO England & the RFU need to clear house back and front..

Get a fresh slate for the next four years if they're serious about challenging in a world cup.

Graham Henry was talking about wanting to go into a 'culture' or coach building role. Bring him in to replace Rob Andrew. Identify a top level coach to come in and be in charge, bring in two or three younger coaches who (with the right nurturing) could eventually take over. Settle on a style of play and pick players that fit.

Personally, I think the most successful clubs in rugby are the ones with money & continuity. The RFU has money, it just needs to build the 'culture' and identity that comes with stability. A bit like a mixture of Barcelona (they have a distinct identity and play a certain way based on a playing philosophy) mixed with Leicester, and more recently Saracens (Tigers have always developed from within, Sarries are starting to do the same with Andy Farrell/Paul Gustard/Sanderson in the coaching team & earmarked as future head coaches).

Also, as far as players are concerned, I really liked Lievremont's early forays with France. A lot of people didn't like it but he came in and early on, gave domestic performers (regardless of club) a chance to pull on the French jersey and show what they had. Perhaps he was a little extreme in that until the WC he'd never played exactly the same team twice in a row but with a bit more selectiveness it can work wonders and can make players a bit more focused on getting/keeping their shirt.
