I glued my first few tubs last week. Found it to be quite easy and apart from a brief moment where I glued my hand to my desk, not very messy. They're on straight and everything.

Tape involves zero mess, so my point stands.

Why so adverse to a bit of mess? Not like you have to do it all the time and a large majority of maintenance one does on a bike is inherently messy.
