I guess different people do different things like on a road bike I average 100rpm where others might average 80rpm. We experimented a fair bit on the track and changing from 165 to 177.5 made a big difference.

The average person has a 31" inside leg, I have a 38" inside leg. That's 20% more.
If you assume it's proportional, assuming a 31" inside leg rides 170mm, a 38" inside leg should be riding something like a 210mm crank. Obviously the correct formula may not be proportional, but I'm fairly convinced I should use bigger cranks than 170.
